Job Description
General Summary of Duties:
Provides professional customer service by obtaining and verifying necessary demographic and insurance information.Major Responsibilities/Tasks:
1. Follows opening and closing procedures according to office guidelines. 2. Greets patients/parents in polite, prompt, helpful manner and provides any necessary instructions/directions. Informs nursing staff of patient arrivals. 3. Obtains and enters new patient demographics; updates patient information, as necessary, in the computer system to maintain accuracy for billing. 4. Obtains insurance information; may require verification by contacting insurance companies. 5. Collects all co-pays and balances, as required by office policies. Understands and can apply payments to balances. 6. Reviews all forms for accuracy and completion according to office policies prior to accepting. 7. Applies billing codes accurately at check out. 8. Schedules return appointments at check out. 9. Proves out at closing showing the day's total receipts; matches the day's transactions and completes deposit slips. 10. Files charts, demographic forms, HIPAA Acknowledgment forms, etc. 11. Maintains clean and orderly waiting area including reading material. 12. Requires working on Saturdays based on rotation schedule. 13. Attends regular staff meetings as required. 14. Conducts self in accordance with Med First's employee handbook. 15. Maintains strictest confidentiality; adheres to all HIPAA guidelines/regulations. 16. Other duties as assigned.EDUCATION
High School Diploma orGED EXPERIENCE
Minimum 1 to 2 years' experience as a Medical Receptionist, Experience with Microsoft Word and other computer programs, Medical terminology, ICD-9 and CPT Coding helpful, Must be organized and detail oriented, Self-directed and able to work under limited supervision.Work Environment:
This position operates in a clinic. The majority of the time is spent in a professional office environment and this role routinely uses standard office equipment. Work may be stressful at times due to busy office. Interaction with others is constant and interruptive. This position requires unaided lifting up to 20 pounds, excessive standing and hand dexterity for telephone and office machine operation ```Duties```- Greet and welcome patients and visitors in a friendly and professional manner
- Answer phone calls, schedule appointments, and manage patient inquiries
- Verify patient insurance information and collect necessary co-pays or payments
- Maintain patient records and update medical information as necessary
- Assist with medical billing and coding tasks
- Coordinate referrals to specialists or other healthcare providers
- Ensure the reception area is clean, organized, and presentable ```Requirements```
- Previous experience as a front desk receptionist or in a similar role
- Knowledge of medical terminology and familiarity with medical office procedures
- Proficiency in using electronic medical record (EMR) systems such as Athena
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to handle patient inquiries and complaints professionally
- Attention to detail and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of patient information
