The Medical Front Desk Specialist is the first point of contact for our patients and plays an important role in creating a welcoming and professional patient experience. This position is also responsible for accurate scheduling, insurance verification, patient collections, and front-office administrative support. The ideal candidate is proactive, organized, reliable, and comfortable communicating with patients regarding insurance benefits and financial responsibility. We are looking for someone who takes initiative, works well with a team, and can manage multiple responsibilities in a busy primary care setting. Duties Welcome patients and provide professional, friendly customer service. Complete patient check-in/check-out, scheduling, phone calls, and messages. Verify demographics, insurance eligibility, and benefits before appointments. Review copays, deductibles, coinsurance, PCP/referral requirements, and estimated patient responsibility. Use insurance portals and contact insurance companies to help resolve eligibility and coverage issues. Collect and accurately document copays, deductibles, self-pay charges, and outstanding balances. Clearly and professionally explain insurance and financial responsibility to patients. Prepare upcoming schedules and ensure patient accounts, insurance information, identification, and required forms are complete. Maintain accurate EHR documentation and process insurance cards, records, faxes, forms, and other front-office documents. Assist with CoverMyMeds and medication prior authorization administrative tasks as needed , including monitoring status and communicating requests to clinical staff. Communicate with providers, medical assistants, billing staff, and management regarding patient, scheduling, insurance, or billing concerns. Maintain HIPAA compliance, patient confidentiality, and follow office policies. Assist with other front-office and administrative duties as needed. Qualifications Previous medical front desk experience preferred. Experience with insurance eligibility and benefit verification strongly preferred . Knowledge of copays, deductibles, coinsurance, HMO/PPO plans, Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance preferred. Athena EHR experience preferred, but not required. Training can be provided. Comfortable collecting payments and discussing patient financial responsibility. Strong communication, organization, and multitasking skills. Dependable, punctual, detail-oriented, and able to take initiative. Bilingual English/Spanish. Accuracy, initiative, professionalism, and teamwork are essential.
Pay:
$14.00 - $16.00 per hour
