Job Description

About the Opportunity Flow Heart and Vascular is seeking an exceptional, dependable, and detail-oriented Medical Scribe and Clinical Operations Assistant to work directly with Nachiket J. Patel, MD, FACC, FSCAI, an interventional cardiologist in an independent cardiovascular practice in Mesa, Arizona. This is more than a traditional scribe position. The role combines real-time medical documentation, preparation of patient charts, retrieval of outside records, procedure coordination, and patient communication. You will follow patients through evaluation and treatment and see how medical history, diagnostic testing, clinical judgment, and longitudinal care come together in everyday practice. The position is especially well suited to a recent college graduate taking one or two gap years before medical school or another clinical training program. Current students may apply if they can reliably meet a full-time weekday schedule. Prior scribing experience is helpful but not required. What You Will Do Prepare patient charts. Review relevant cardiology records, hospital encounters, laboratory results, imaging, prior procedures, medications, and the reason for the visit. Prepare concise summaries and identify missing or conflicting information. Document visits alongside the physician. Enter accurate histories, physician-reported examination findings, diagnostic results, assessments, and plans into the electronic medical record for physician review and authentication. Obtain and organize outside records. Request relevant records from medical offices, hospitals, laboratories, and imaging facilities, and track requests until the needed information is received. Assist with preprocedure and postprocedure communication. Use physician-approved scripts and checklists to confirm logistics, relay established instructions, and collect routine follow-up information. Escalate clinical questions or concerns rather than independently interpreting results, changing medications, or giving medical advice. Support follow-through after visits. Work with the physician and practice staff to track outstanding records, testing, procedure-related tasks, and follow-up needs through completion. Clinical Learning and Mentorship You will work alongside an interventional cardiologist and gain exposure to coronary artery disease, arrhythmias, heart failure, vascular disease, preventive cardiology, cardiovascular imaging, POTS and dysautonomia, and interventional procedures. As you develop, you will learn to recognize what matters in a complex record, organize a clinical history, document accurately, and understand the reasoning behind diagnostic and treatment decisions. Academic Writing and Research Opportunities For candidates interested in academic medicine, there may be opportunities to participate in physician-supervised medical writing and small research or quality-improvement projects. Depending on performance, interests, and available projects, this may include literature reviews, case reports, review articles, patient-education materials, or approved clinical projects. Projects may involve developing a clinical question, reviewing literature, organizing approved data, drafting a manuscript, and learning about submission and peer review. Who We Are Looking For The strongest candidate will be intelligent, curious about medicine, highly organized, dependable, able to accept feedback, and willing to ask for clarification rather than guess. Clear writing and communication. You summarize complex information accurately and communicate professionally with patients, staff, and outside offices. Excellent attention to detail. You notice missing records, conflicting information, medication discrepancies, and documentation that needs clarification. Dependable follow-through. You manage competing tasks and take responsibility for carrying assigned work to completion. Professional judgment. You protect confidential information, stay within the role, and promptly escalate clinical concerns. Comfort with technology. You can learn an electronic medical record and use digital tools efficiently. eClinicalWorks experience is a plus. Previous experience with medical scribing, medical terminology, electronic health records, or clinical research is helpful but not required. Training will be provided for the right candidate. Schedule and Commitment This is a full-time, salaried, in-person position scheduled for 40 hours per week. The schedule includes four full clinic days, with the remaining time devoted to chart preparation, patient calls, record retrieval, procedure coordination, and related responsibilities. Applicants must have consistent weekday availability. Because substantial training and continuity are involved, preference will be given to candidates who can commit for at least 12 months. Availability for 18 to 24 months is ideal. Please describe your anticipated school or career timeline in your application. Compensation and Development This full-time salaried position pays $50,000 annually and includes paid training, direct physician mentorship, and a formal performance review after the first 90 days. Responsibilities may expand as you demonstrate accuracy, sound judgment, and increasing independence.
