This role includes assisting with clerical documentation by acting as a medical scribe, accurately recording patient encounters at the direction of a physician or non-physician practitioner (NPP). Demonstrates age specific and cultural sensitivity towards internal and external customers. This position is distinguished from other administrative support classes in that the position provides highly sensitive support to designated Providers. All duties are to be done in accordance with Joint Commission, Federal and State regulations, Oceans' Mission, policies and procedures and PI Standards.
Essential Functions:
Reviews schedule and identifies charts and other records needed to support designated providers when patient appointments or consults are conducted. Acts as a medical scribe by entering information into patient medical records at the direction of a physician or non-physician practitioner (NPP). This includes documenting patient encounters in real time during evaluations, procedures, and other services. The scribe's role is limited to clerical documentation and does not involve interviewing, treating, or assessing patients or providing independent observations. Collects patient demographic information needed for charts and billing purposes. Assists patient therapy by contacting applicable pharmacies to have prescribed medications available for patient pickup. Using charts and other medical records, prepares billing for designated providers. May conduct research or other projects as assigned by designated physicians. Performs other related duties as assigned.
