The Qualified Medication Aide (QMA) provides direct resident care and support services in accordance with established nursing standards, the Indiana Nurse Practice Act (as applicable), and facility policies and procedures. This role works under the supervision of a Licensed Nurse (RN or LPN) and is responsible for promoting resident comfort, safety, dignity, and quality of life. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Provide safe, compassionate, and efficient personal care to residents, including assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and mobility Assist residents with meals, hydration, and feeding as needed Answer call lights promptly and respond to resident requests for assistance Observe and report changes in resident condition to the licensed nurse Take and record vital signs, weights, intake/output, and other assigned measurements Assist with transfers and ambulation using proper body mechanics and mechanical lifting devices Maintain a clean, safe, and organized resident environment Follow infection control practices and utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) Support resident rights and maintain HIPAA compliance at all times Document care provided in accordance with facility standards Medication Administration (QMA Responsibilities, if certified) Administer medications and treatments as delegated and supervised by a licensed nurse Accurately document medications administered and report any side effects or concerns Maintain proper medication storage and security Perform controlled substance counts with licensed staff as required Report medication errors or discrepancies immediately according to policy Team & Unit Support Assist with resident activities and engagement programs Provide one-to-one (1:1) observation when required Respond appropriately to emergency situations and facility codes Participate in shift report to promote continuity of care Assist with orientation of new staff as assigned Perform other related duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification in the State of Indiana Current Qualified Medication Aide (QMA) certification in Indiana (for medication administration duties) Current CPR certification (as required by facility policy) Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions Ability to observe, document, and report resident information accurately Ability to work effectively as part of a healthcare team Strong interpersonal and communication skills Commitment to providing respectful, veteran-centered care Work Environment & Physical Requirements Work is performed primarily within a nursing care unit Frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, pushing, and pulling required Must be able to safely lift, reposition, and transfer residents using approved techniques and equipment May be exposed to body fluids, cleaning agents, and residents with challenging behaviors
