Administers routine and PRN medications to residents with stable, predictable health conditions in accordance with applicable regulations and facility policies. Follows the required rights of medication administration, including the right medication, resident, dose, time, route, technique, and documentation. Performs CNA II clinical procedures, including urinary catheter removal, urine specimen collection, elimination procedures, gastrostomy/PEG tube feedings, oropharyngeal suctioning, and capillary blood glucose testing. Provides oxygen therapy, wound care, sterile procedures, and tracheostomy care for residents with well-established tracheostomies. Assists with the setup of equipment and discontinuation of IVs as permitted by training, certification, and scope of practice. Observes residents for changes in physical, behavioral, and mental health status and promptly reports significant or subtle changes to the charge nurse. Recognizes and responds appropriately to signs and symptoms of depression, anxiety, and other mental health concerns. Accurately documents medications administered, procedures performed, resident responses, and other required clinical information. Provides assistance with activities of daily living, including bathing, personal hygiene, grooming, dressing, eating, toileting, and mobility. Assists residents with transfers, ambulation, positioning, and other mobility needs using appropriate body mechanics and safety techniques. Transports residents safely to and from medical appointments and other scheduled activities. Maintains and properly operates nursing equipment and follows infection-control practices, safety procedures, and facility policies. Responds to resident emergencies and performs CPR, the Heimlich maneuver, basic first aid, and resident evacuation procedures as required. Works collaboratively with nurses, healthcare professionals, residents, families, and other members of the care team. Performs other CNA duties and responsibilities as assigned. General CNA duties may not be performed during designated medication-pass times. Maintains professional conduct and provides compassionate, respectful, and person-centered care to all residents.
