This position involves fostering independence, ensuring safety, and enhancing quality of life through direct support, skill development, and community engagement. The SLC works closely with clients to promote their well-being in home and community settings, utilizing a compassionate approach tailored to each individual's needs. The role requires excellent communication skills, patience, and a strong understanding of behavioral health and developmental disabilities. Responsibilities Provide direct support to individuals with autism, intellectual disabilities, neurodevelopmental disorders, and other disabilities to promote independence and daily living skills. Assist clients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including personal hygiene, grooming, meal preparation, and medication administration as needed. Implement behavior management strategies to support positive behavior and reduce challenging behaviors. Support clients in community outings, appointments, and social activities while ensuring safety and engagement. Collect data on client progress, behaviors, and skill acquisition to inform care plans and report outcomes. Operate standard passenger vehicles safely for client transportation purposes. Maintain accurate documentation of services provided, client progress, and any incidents or concerns. Foster effective communication with clients using verbal skills or alternative methods such as American Sign Language when applicable. Collaborate with families, caregivers, and interdisciplinary teams to develop individualized support plans. Ensure a safe environment by adhering to health and safety protocols, including first aid and CPR procedures when necessary. Experience Prior experience working with individuals with autism or developmental disabilities is highly preferred. Background in special education, behavioral health, social services, or related fields is advantageous. Familiarity with assisting clients in community settings and providing home & community care is beneficial. Certification in first aid and CPR is recommended; ongoing training opportunities are available for skill enhancement. Strong communication skills—both verbal and non-verbal—are essential for effective client interaction and team collaboration.
