Job Summary Freedom Scholars Learning Center is seeking a 1-on-1 Aide Specialist to provide individualized support for scholars in our Seed Sowers & Storytellers Afterschool Program. The 1-on-1 Aide Specialist supports scholars who may need additional academic, behavioral, social-emotional, physical, communication, or transition support. This role helps ensure that each scholar can participate safely, fully, and meaningfully in the life of the program. The ideal candidate is patient, calm, dependable, and compassionate, with experience supporting children in a school, afterschool, childcare, youth development, behavioral support, or special education setting. Responsibilities Provide direct individualized support to assigned scholar(s) throughout afterschool programming. Assist scholar(s) with participation in Harambee, the Integrated Reading Curriculum, reading interventions, project-based learning, 4-H/gardening activities, DEAR/BOOST time, meals, transitions, field trips, and family events. Support scholar(s) with routines, focus, emotional regulation, communication, and participation. Provide clear directions, reminders, modeling, encouragement, and redirection as needed. Work closely with Servant Leaders and program staff to identify and support reasonable modifications that help scholar(s) participate successfully. Encourage positive peer interaction, confidence, self-advocacy, and belonging. Support basic daily needs when appropriate, including handwashing, snack/mealtime routines, restroom transitions, and safe movement through the program space. Assist with arrival, dismissal, and parent/guardian communication for assigned scholar(s). Communicate scholar needs, progress, challenges, and concerns to the Site Coordinator or program leadership. Follow FSLC safety expectations, child protection policies, incident reporting procedures, and confidentiality guidelines. Attend and participate in organization trainings and professional development. Attend and actively participate in daily debrief sessions throughout the program. Help maintain a safe, affirming, non-judgmental, and culturally responsive learning environment. Qualifications Experience working with children in a school, afterschool, summer program, childcare, youth development, behavioral support, special education, or related setting. Experience supporting children with learning differences, neurodivergencies, IEPs, behavioral support needs, communication needs, or social-emotional needs is preferred. Ability to remain calm, patient, consistent, and compassionate when supporting children. Ability to motivate and encourage scholars while maintaining appropriate structure and boundaries. Ability to collaborate effectively with Servant Leaders, Junior Servant Leaders, families, volunteers, and program leadership. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to follow program expectations, maintain confidentiality, and respond appropriately to safety concerns. Ability to receive feedback, participate in debriefs, and adjust support strategies when needed. Special education experience, paraprofessional experience, CPR/First Aid training, crisis prevention training, or related certifications are helpful but not required. Effective conflict resolution skills and a positive self-concept. Demonstrated commitment to children's advocacy and enthusiasm for the mission of Freedom Scholars Learning Center. Ability to follow FSLC safety expectations, child protection policies, incident reporting procedures, and confidentiality guidelines. Completion of all required onboarding steps, trainings, and employment documentation prior to beginning work. Submission of a current résumé.
