Immediately Job Description This position is for the Craftsbury, Hardwick, and Wolcott afterschool sites. The behavioral assistant will work closely with the administrative and enrichment coordinators to support our participants as they engage in our enrichment program. The candidate will help to ensure the emotional well-being of students in grades K-8 in Orleans Southwest Supervisory Union who attend WonderKids programming. This individual will support students with a range of needs and abilities while maintaining a positive behavioral approach that embraces each student's uniqueness and ability to thrive. The candidate will present themselves as a strong role model for children and adolescents and demonstrate management and supervision of students in accordance with WonderKids' philosophies and mission. This is a part-time in-person position averaging up to 16 hours per week for the duration of the 2026-2027 school year. Responsibilities:
Behavior Support:
Provide behavioral support through therapeutic communication and strength-based strategies to ensure the safety and well-being of students. The proper candidate will embrace the following trauma-informed best practices: co-regulation, connection, empathy, acceptance, congruence, naming emotions, presence, and attunement.
Co-Regulation:
Maintain awareness of one's affect, posture, body language, and complexity and tone of language.
Program Support:
This includes supporting children's general engagement with the program, helping the children understand activities, being kind to their peers, and managing themselves within an enrichment activity.
Communication:
Will maintain ongoing communication with the coordinators to ensure transparency and consistency and to track student progress.
Collaboration:
Communicate with all staff to ensure behavior and safety plans are being implemented correctly to the benefit of the students. This includes attention to students' abilities, treatment needs, and behavior plans in accordance with direction from the Administrative Coordinator.
Duties:
  • On-site program support, assisting the Administrative and Enrichment Coordinator, and helping the students engage in the programs
  • Provide behavioral support through therapeutic communication and strength-based strategies to ensure the safety and well-being of students
  • Strive at all times to foster a positive approach to behavioral management
  • Working with the Administrative Coordinator to implement appropriate supports
  • Participant supervision and general safety
  • Problem-solve and support during crises
  • Communicate enrichment observations to the Enrichment Coordinator
