shift A Dream Called Hope Laveen, AZ Job Details Part-time | Full-time $18 - $20 an hour 19 hours ago Qualifications CPR Certification Interpersonal skills Company vehicle operation High school diploma or GED Driver's License First Aid Certification Dog handling Organizational skills Time management Full Job Description The Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) provides direct care, supervision, support, and behavioral interventions to children and adolescents residing in A Dream Called Hope's Behavioral Health Residential Facility (BHRF). The BHT plays a vital role in maintaining a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment while assisting residents in developing emotional regulation, independent living skills, healthy relationships, and positive coping strategies. BHTs work closely with licensed behavioral health professionals, nursing staff, case managers, guardians, and other members of the treatment team to implement individualized treatment plans and promote successful outcomes. As part of ADCH's trauma-informed approach, BHTs also supervise and facilitate resident participation in structured animal-assisted support activities involving the facility's trained household dogs when clinically appropriate and in accordance with facility policies. Essential Job Duties Provide continuous supervision and ensure resident safety. Build therapeutic relationships through positive role modeling. Implement individualized treatment plans as directed. Assist residents in developing healthy coping skills and emotional regulation. Facilitate and supervise daily routines, including: Morning routines Hygiene Meals Medication observation (per policy) Chores Homework Recreation Evening routines Transport residents to appointments, school, recreational activities, and community outings when authorized. Conduct room searches, safety checks, and facility inspections as required. Complete behavioral observations and documentation accurately and within required timeframes. Assist during behavioral crises using approved de-escalation techniques. Follow all crisis intervention, emergency, abuse reporting, and safety procedures. Participate in treatment team meetings and communicate resident progress to supervisors. Encourage positive peer interactions and conflict resolution. Teach and reinforce life skills, including: Personal hygiene Budgeting Meal preparation Laundry Time management Organization Community living skills Support educational attendance and homework completion. Assist with therapeutic groups and recreational activities. Participate in community outings, volunteer opportunities, and experiential activities. Supervise residents during structured animal-assisted support activities involving the facility's dogs. Assist residents in learning appropriate interactions with animals, including respectful handling, grooming, feeding (when appropriate), walking, and basic care under staff supervision. Monitor resident and animal safety during all interactions and immediately address unsafe behaviors. Help maintain the health, cleanliness, and daily care of the facility's dogs, including feeding, watering, exercise, grooming assistance, kennel and living area cleanliness, and reporting any concerns regarding the animals' health or behavior. Ensure that all animal interactions are conducted in accordance with ADCH policies, resident treatment goals, and infection-control procedures. Maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and agency policies. Maintain professional boundaries at all times. Perform additional duties as assigned. Therapeutic Responsibilities Utilize trauma-informed care principles. Model appropriate communication and emotional regulation. Reinforce treatment goals established by therapists. Support residents during difficult emotional situations. Promote independence while maintaining appropriate supervision. Encourage healthy decision-making and accountability. Assist with positive behavior reinforcement systems. Utilize interactions with the facility's dogs to promote empathy, responsibility, patience, emotional regulation, healthy attachment, communication skills, and positive social engagement when clinically appropriate. Reinforce treatment goals through structured animal-assisted support activities as directed by the treatment team. Documentation Responsibilities Complete shift notes. Document significant incidents. Record behavioral observations. Document resident participation and response to animal-assisted support activities when applicable. Report changes in resident condition immediately. Complete required safety documentation. Document transportation logs. Complete required incident reports before the end of shift. Minimum Qualifications Must be at least 21 years of age. High school diploma or GED required. Meet Arizona Behavioral Health Technician requirements. Current CPR and First Aid certification (or obtain upon hire). Valid Arizona driver's license with acceptable driving record. Ability to pass background clearance requirements. Negative TB screening as required. Ability to obtain and maintain all required agency training.
Preferred:
Experience working with children or adolescents. Experience in behavioral health or residential treatment. Experience working around dogs or animal-assisted programs. CPI or approved crisis intervention certification. Experience working with trauma, substance use disorders, developmental disabilities, or youth with severe emotional and behavioral challenges. Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Ability to safely intervene during behavioral emergencies using approved techniques. Ability to participate in recreational and outdoor activities with residents. Ability to safely handle, walk, and assist in caring for household dogs. Ability to drive agency vehicles when assigned.
Pay:
$18.00 - $20.00 per hour
