Job Overview Join our dedicated team as a Behavioral Health Technician and become an important part of providing compassionate, structured, and professional support to individuals receiving treatment for substance use and behavioral health conditions. Behavioral Health Technicians play a vital role in maintaining client safety, supporting daily programming, monitoring client behavior and wellbeing, assisting with documentation, and helping maintain a clean and orderly treatment environment. This position requires professionalism, dependability, strong boundaries, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary treatment team. Duties and Responsibilities Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Monitor clients throughout assigned shifts and promptly report changes in behavior, mood, physical condition, or safety concerns Support clients with daily routines, scheduled activities, appointments, meals, groups, and recovery-related programming Conduct and document client observations, behavioral concerns, and significant events accurately and promptly Obtain and document vital signs as assigned and within the scope of the position Assist with admission and intake procedures, belongings inventories, orientation, and other client-transition activities Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record in compliance with HIPAA and facility policies Assist with medication-related procedures only as permitted by facility policy, training, and applicable scope requirements Participate in crisis intervention and help de-escalate behavioral situations safely and professionally Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with clients at all times Conduct required client rounds and safety checks Assist with transportation of clients when assigned Communicate effectively with nursing, clinical, case management, admissions, and operations staff Participate in shift reports and communicate important client information to incoming staff Support implementation of treatment plans and behavioral interventions as directed by the clinical team Help maintain a safe, organized, and recovery-focused environment Perform light housekeeping duties during the shift, including keeping common areas orderly, wiping down surfaces, removing trash, assisting with minor spills, ensuring client areas remain sanitary, and helping maintain general cleanliness between professional cleaning-service visits Encourage clients to maintain appropriate cleanliness of their personal spaces and participate in assigned household responsibilities Report maintenance, sanitation, or safety concerns promptly to management Follow all facility policies related to infection control, confidentiality, emergency procedures, client rights, and workplace safety Requirements Applicants must have: Valid California Driver's License Current CPR/First Aid certification Ability to maintain professional boundaries Ability to work effectively in a structured behavioral health environment Strong communication and documentation skills Ability to remain calm and professional during emergencies or behavioral crises Ability to work assigned shifts, including weekends, evenings, or holidays when required Experience Prior behavioral health, substance use treatment, mental health, residential treatment, or similar experience is highly preferred Knowledge of KIPU or a similar electronic health record system is strongly preferred Knowledge of crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques is highly preferred Familiarity with medical terminology and behavioral health documentation is advantageous Experience working with individuals with substance use disorders, mental health conditions, trauma, or co-occurring disorders is preferred Strong observational and documentation skills are highly valued Ability to work effectively with a multidisciplinary treatment team is essential Join us in providing compassionate, professional, and structured support to individuals working toward recovery and improved wellbeing.
