Summary:

The Busch Wildlife Sanctuary (BWS) is a non-profit organization with over 40 years of dedication to the protection and conservation of Florida's wildlife and natural resources. To accomplish this goal the Sanctuary has a two-fold mission of wildlife rehabilitation and environmental education .

Position:

Our medical team is seeking a highly organized individual with exemplary time-management skills to join our wildlife rehabilitation clinic and veterinary care team. This position will support our veterinarians in providing high-quality veterinary care while ensuring the highest standards of animal husbandry are consistently maintained. Duties include coordinating and providing medical care for wildlife rehabilitation patients and resident animals; developing, implementing, and maintaining standard operating procedures; and supporting staff education and training in areas such as workplace safety, zoonotic disease prevention, medical treatment protocols, and diet development. The position will also oversee the maintenance and readiness of medical equipment within the clinic, manage inventory, and ensure that medications, medical supplies, and other essential materials are properly stocked and readily available. This role requires strong attention to detail, excellent organization, and the ability to effectively coordinate multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced wildlife rehabilitation and veterinary care environment. Schedule:

Regular work hours are generally 7:00 am to 6:00 pm, 4 days per week. The clinic operates 365 days/year. Variable weekend availability is needed and required, as well as occasional holidays.

Location :

This position requires on-site work at the Sanctuary in Jupiter, FL. Duties and Responsibilities (Other duties may be assigned): Assist in triage of incoming wildlife cases and administer medical care plan for veterinarian or implementing established written protocols when veterinarian is not immediately available. Schedule and assist with medical care for permanent wildlife for preventative medicine; triage emergencies; coordinate veterinary care. Perform radiographs, monitor and run anesthesia protocols, perform laboratory testing in house (PCV, Total solids, blood differential smears, patient side blood testing), collect and submit blood/culture/specialty testing to referral labs, utilization of microscope, centrifuge, refractometer, autoclave, nebulization. Give oral medication, injections (subcutaneous, intramuscular, and intravenous), IV catheter placement/management, feeding tube management and nebulization. Calculate medication and fluid therapy plans, understanding established medication protocol for common conditions and following written guidelines. Administer tube feeding, assistance feeding. Facilitating wound care and bandaging techniques. Maintaining hospital equipment, supply ordering, and inventory. Assist with continuing education for staff/volunteers and training on site. Curates the diet plans in coordination with staff veterinarian. Ensures daily cleaning duties (including food preparation, laundry, dishes and trash) are completed and assists with these duties when needed. Other duties may be assigned.

Education/Experience:

Bachelor's or Associate's degree (Certified or Registered Veterinary Technician); and a minimum of three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Qualifications:

Registered or Certified Veterinary Technician or experience comparable to these degrees/licenses. The requirements listed above are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. High school diploma or general education degree (GED); with two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience (wildlife management degree or certification, falconry license, wildlife rehabilitation certification, veterinary assistant certification). Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as simple drug dosing, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is maybe exposed to extreme outdoor weather conditions including heat, cold, stormy weather. The employee is frequently exposed to the risk of animal bites or zoonotic diseases. The employee may be exposed to wet or humid conditions, biohazards with safety practices, radiation equipment with safety practices, and caustic chemicals.
