Neonatal APP (NNP / PA - Locum Tenens) Belleville, New Jersey Multiple Openings (2 APPs) | Level II Special Care Nursery | Flexible 12-Hour & 24-Hour Shifts | Zero Call Are you an experienced Neonatal Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant seeking an immediate locum tenens role in northern New Jersey? A well-regarded community hospital in Belleville is seeking two neonatal APPs to support its Level II Special Care Nursery through December 31, 2026. Offering autonomous practice, a manageable census, zero call or floating obligations, and flexible shift options, this role is ideal for skilled neonatal providers in the tri-state area. The Opportunity Step into a well-supported Level II Special Care Nursery, acting as the primary onsite pediatric provider with dedicated morning neonatologist rounding and 24/7 telephone backup.
Clinical Scope:
Provide comprehensive neonatal and well-baby care, including: Attending all Cesarean deliveries, high-risk births, and requested vaginal deliveries. Performing neonatal resuscitation and clinical newborn evaluations. Managing the well-baby nursery and Level II Special Care Nursery census. Completing overnight flowsheet rounds and maintaining close coordination with nursing staff. Coordinating infant transfers for higher-level care (transferred to a nearby regional medical center) and accompanying transport teams when necessary.
The Schedule:
Immediate coverage running through December 31, 2026 .
Shift Formats:
Flexible 12-hour shifts (
Days:
7:00 AM - 7:00 PM |
Nights:
7:00 PM - 7:00 AM) or 24-hour shifts covering weekdays and weekends.
Call & Floating:
Zero call and zero floating required.
Patient Volume & Census:
Manageable daily workflow with an average nursery census of ~5 newborns, ~5 deliveries per day, and total coverage volume averaging 10-12 patients.
Technology:
Charting and orders managed through Epic EMR .
Candidate Requirements Credentials & Certification:
Board Certified Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP-BC) or qualified Physician Assistant (PA-C) with extensive neonatal care experience.
Licensure:
Active, unencumbered New Jersey State License.
Resuscitation & Clinical Skill:
High proficiency in neonatal resuscitation and comfortable working independently as the sole onsite pediatric clinician.
Location Preference:
Local or tri-state area candidates (NJ/NY/PA) are strongly preferred.
Experience & EHR:
