Master of Nursing Certified Nurse-Midwife Full Job Description Job Summary :
The Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) provides comprehensive care to women across the reproductive lifespan with a focus on pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum, gynecologic care, and family planning. The CNM emphasizes health promotion, patient education, and evidence-based practice while collaborating with physicians and the clinical care team to ensure safe, compassionate, patient-centered care.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
(Additional duties may be assigned) Provide prenatal, antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum care in accordance with established clinical guidelines. Manage low- to moderate-risk pregnancies independently and collaborate with physicians for high-risk or complex cases. Perform routine gynecologic care including annual exams, Pap smears, contraception counseling, and menopause management. Order, interpret, and evaluate laboratory and diagnostic tests. Prescribe medications and treatments as permitted under state law. Educate and counsel patients and families on reproductive health, pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding, and newborn care. Perform minor in-office procedures (IUD/implant insertion, biopsies, colposcopies as credentialed). Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR). Participate in quality improvement initiatives, continuing education, and compliance with regulatory requirements. Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and support staff to provide seamless, team-based care. Attend and support labor and delivery in a hospital or birth center setting as credentialed.
Minimum Qualification Standards:
Master's degree in nursing with completion of an accredited Nurse Midwifery program. Current New York State RN and CNM licensure. National certification through the American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB). Current DEA license (or eligibility). BLS/CPR certification required; NRP preferred. Minimum of 1-2 years' midwifery or women's health experience preferred. Strong communication, clinical judgment, and interpersonal skills.
Work Environment:
Outpatient clinical care, hospital-based labor and delivery, and postpartum follow-up. May involve on-call rotations, nights, weekends, and holidays. Travel between practice locations may be required.
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged standing/walking during patient care and deliveries. Ability to assist laboring patients physically and provide emergency interventions when necessary.
