Job Description

Mercy is seeking a skilled Nuclear Medicine Technologist to join our Healthcare & Medical Services team. In this role, you will perform diagnostic nuclear medicine procedures, operate imaging equipment, administer radiopharmaceuticals, and ensure accurate image acquisition and documentation. You will collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other clinicians to provide safe, high-quality patient care while adhering to radiation safety standards and regulatory guidelines. Responsibilities Perform a full range of nuclear medicine diagnostic procedures using PET, SPECT, and gamma camera systems according to physician orders and established protocols. Prepare, calculate, and administer radiopharmaceuticals safely, following radiation safety, handling, and disposal regulations. Ensure accurate patient identification, verify orders and histories, and clearly explain procedures to patients and families to promote comfort and cooperation. Position patients appropriately and select proper imaging parameters to acquire high-quality diagnostic images. Monitor patients before, during, and after procedures, recognizing and responding to adverse reactions or changes in condition. Conduct daily and periodic quality control tests on nuclear medicine equipment and radiopharmaceuticals, documenting results and addressing issues promptly. Adhere to ALARA principles and all applicable state, federal, and accreditation standards related to radiation safety and nuclear medicine practice. Process and reconstruct images using PACS and other specialized software, ensuring complete and accurate documentation for physician interpretation. Collaborate with radiologists, nuclear medicine physicians, nurses, and other team members to coordinate care and optimize workflow. Maintain detailed records of radiopharmaceutical inventory, usage, and disposal in compliance with regulatory requirements. Participate in continuous improvement, safety initiatives, and department meetings, contributing ideas to enhance quality and patient experience. Engage in ongoing education and training to maintain competencies, certifications, and knowledge of current best practices in nuclear medicine.
