Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) About the Opportunity The University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center (UM BWMC), part of the University of Maryland Medical System, is seeking Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) to join a high-performing, academic anesthesiology team. Position Overview CRNAs are essential members of the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. In collaboration with anesthesiologists, surgeons, and multidisciplinary teams, CRNAs provide comprehensive, evidence-based anesthesia and pain management care across a wide range of surgical and procedural settings. This role offers exposure to high-acuity cases across the lifespan in a supportive academic environment with opportunities for teaching, research, and quality improvement. Clinical Responsibilities Conduct pre-anesthetic evaluations and develop individualized anesthesia care plans Obtain informed consent and order/evaluate diagnostic studies Administer and manage anesthesia including induction, maintenance, and emergence Perform and manage regional anesthesia techniques (when applicable) Place and manage invasive and non-invasive monitoring devices Manage airway, ventilation, fluids, blood products, and hemodynamic stability Respond to intraoperative and perioperative emergencies Communicate patient status changes to supervising anesthesiologists and surgical teams Provide post-anesthesia care and recovery management Practice Environment Operating rooms and procedural areas at UM BWMC Opportunities in obstetrics, regional anesthesia, and additional subspecialty areas Collaborative anesthesia care team model with physician anesthesiologists Exposure to patients across all acuity levels Strong emphasis on independent clinical judgment within a supportive structure Academic & Professional Highlights Faculty appointment within the University of Maryland School of Medicine Strong focus on education, simulation training, and ultrasound proficiency Active engagement in quality, safety, and clinical research initiatives Department ranked #14 nationally (Blue Ridge Institute ranking, 2024) Participation in Multicenter Perioperative Outcomes Group (MPOG) Access to perioperative data warehouse supporting outcomes research and quality improvement Opportunities for advanced certification, leadership development, and academic growth Qualifications Required Graduate of an accredited Nurse Anesthesia program Current CRNA certification (AANA) at time of employment Active Registered Nurse license APRN recognition in Maryland (or eligibility within 6 months of hire) Current BLS and ACLS certification (AHA) National Provider Identifier (NPI) and taxonomy code at hire Preferred 2+ years of anesthesia experience in an acute care setting (preferred, not required) Strong clinical judgment, communication, and teamwork skills Interest in academic medicine, teaching, or research Compensation & Benefits Base salary: $230,000 - $290,000+ Comprehensive UMMS Faculty Physician benefits package Tuition remission for employees and dependents Loan forgiveness options Competitive retirement and health benefits CME support and professional development funding Opportunities for advancement and academic growth Please review 2026-2027 UMMS Benefits Guide.pdf Why Join UM BWMC?
