The Division of GI, Tumor and Endocrine Surgery in the Department of Surgery at the University of Colorado, School of Medicine, has a full-time faculty position available at the rank of Instructor for a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA). Under the direction of the full-time faculty or designee, this position provides inpatient and outpatient medical care services at the University of Colorado Hospital (UCH).Key Responsibilities:
- The candidate will be expected to provide independent clinical services as an Advanced Practice Provider for the Trauma and Acute Care Surgery (TACS) service at Anschutz Medical Campus.
- The consult duties will include participating in trauma bay resuscitations, seeing emergency general surgery & trauma consults, admitting patients, collaborating with consultants, preforming bedside procedures and assisting in the operating room if needed.
- There are additional outpatient responsibilities that may be necessary for cross coverage of our service including clinic care, triage of phone calls, emails or faxes, post-op care, follow-up on home care requests, management of referrals and follow-up on diagnostic lab and radiology tests.
- Close collaboration with general surgeons, sub-specialty surgeons, emergency medicine physicians, intensivists and hospital staff will be necessary. Professional interaction with referring physicians and staff, emergency medical personnel and multidisciplinary providers is essential.
- The candidate will provide care to patients on the inpatient wards, the intensive care unit, acute care areas, and occasionally in the outpatient clinics.
- Given the rotating nature of the resident assignments to services, the NP/PA will be a critical part of service continuity and also a link between the inpatient and outpatient environments for patients.
- The census and acuity of clinical practice varies from service to service and NP/PAs may at times be asked to provide cross coverage clinical care on different services to deal with this issue.
