Three Days a Week. Full-Time Impact. We are seeking an experienced and motivated NP or PA to join the healthcare team serving patients at the Charleston County Detention Center in Charleston, South Carolina . You will practice in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment where your clinical judgment matters and where you can use the full breadth of your training to care for a medically diverse patient population. Compensation and Schedule
- This is a 1099 - Contractor position.
- Pay range: $85-$95 per hour, based on experience and qualifications.
- Three 12-hour shifts per week - 36 scheduled hours.
- Four days away from scheduled shifts each week.

- Evaluate, diagnose, and treat acute and chronic medical conditions.
- Perform comprehensive and focused histories and physical examinations.
- Manage chronic conditions including diabetes, hypertension, asthma, COPD, cardiovascular disease, seizure disorders, and other common conditions.
- Evaluate and treat injuries, illnesses, and urgent medical complaints.
- Order and interpret laboratory tests, diagnostic studies, and imaging.
- Prescribe and manage medications in accordance with South Carolina law and applicable clinical policies.
- Evaluate and manage patients experiencing substance withdrawal or complications associated with substance use.
- Determine when patients require emergency department evaluation, hospitalization, specialty consultation, or another higher level of care.
- Participate in intake and receiving follow-up, sick call, chronic care, infirmary care, and other provider clinics.
- Review hospital, emergency department, laboratory, diagnostic, and specialty-provider reports and ensure appropriate follow-up.
- Collaborate closely with physicians, nurses, behavioral health professionals, pharmacists, dentists, specialists, and detention personnel.
- Respond to urgent and emergent medical situations within the facility.
- Provide patient education regarding medications, chronic disease management, preventive care, and healthy behaviors.
- Complete accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record.
- Participate in quality improvement, utilization management, patient safety, and other clinical initiatives. Qualifications - Nurse Practitioner
- Master's or doctoral degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
- Current and unrestricted South Carolina APRN/Nurse Practitioner license, or eligibility to obtain licensure before employment.
- Current national certification appropriate to the position.
- DEA registration, or ability to obtain if required.
- Current CPR/BLS certification. Qualifications - Physician Assistant
- Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
- Current and unrestricted South Carolina Physician Assistant license, or eligibility to obtain licensure before employment.
- Current NCCPA certification.
- DEA registration, or ability to obtain if required.

- Two or more years of NP or PA clinical experience preferred.
- Correctional healthcare experience is a plus, but is not required.
- Experience in emergency medicine, urgent care, family medicine, internal medicine, hospital medicine, or another high-acuity setting is strongly valued.
- Experience managing substance withdrawal, substance-use disorders, behavioral health comorbidities, or medically complex patients is helpful.
- Strong clinical judgment, communication skills, professionalism, and the ability to work effectively in a secure environment.
