About the Role We grow and ship live plants directly to customers across the country. Every plant that leaves our greenhouse goes into a box, travels for several days, and gets unpacked by someone who has been waiting for it. That standard shapes everything we do here. We are looking for a dependable, detail-oriented Assistant Grower to help produce and finish that plant material. This position covers daily crop care — watering, fertility, scouting, pruning, and spacing — with a heavy focus on grading, grooming, and conditioning plants so they arrive healthy and look like what the customer ordered. This is a good fit for someone who takes pride in individual plant quality and wants to build a career in horticulture. Students, recent graduates, and candidates with nursery, greenhouse, agriculture, or plant production experience are encouraged to apply. Key Responsibilities Plant Care & Greenhouse Production Perform daily watering, fertilization, and general crop care across a wide, mixed inventory of ornamental crops. Monitor plant health, growth rate, moisture levels, and overall quality; adjust irrigation and fertility as crops and weather change. Carry out spacing, pruning, pinching, staking, and other cultural practices that keep plants full, balanced, and well-shaped. Pot up, transplant, and step up liner material into finished sizes. Manage greenhouse conditions including ventilation, shade, humidity, and irrigation timing. Maintain growing areas so crops consistently meet our quality standards. Finish Quality & Ship Readiness Grade and cull plants against listing standards. Anything that will disappoint a customer does not go in a box. Groom plants before they move to fulfillment: remove spent blooms, yellowing or damaged foliage, weeds, algae, and debris; clean pots and top-dress as needed. Condition and harden plants ahead of shipping, including managing dry-down so plants ship at the right moisture level and are not waterlogged in transit. Stage graded, groomed, and labeled plants for the fulfillment team on schedule. Pull plants for product photography and help keep photographed material representative of what is actually shipping. Flag crops that are not ready so they can be pulled from availability rather than shipped short. Inventory Accuracy Count and report sellable inventory accurately and on time. Online listings are built off these numbers, so an inflated count becomes a canceled customer order. Keep crops physically organized and clearly identified by variety and size so the fulfillment team can find and pick correctly. Track crop timing and communicate when a batch will and will not be ready, so listings and promotions can be planned around real availability. Report shrink, losses, and quality downgrades promptly. Integrated Pest Management & Crop Scouting Scout crops regularly for pests, disease, nutritional issues, and cultural problems, and report findings promptly. Assist with chemical and biological control programs under proper supervision. Mix and apply crop treatments according to label directions, REI and PHI requirements, safety procedures, and nursery protocols. Keep accurate records of pest pressure, scouting results, treatments applied, and follow-up outcomes. Support clean-stock standards required for interstate shipping and state agricultural inspection, including keeping shipped material free of pests, disease, weeds, and soil contaminants. Production Planning & Team Support Work with the Head Grower on incoming plant material, crop scheduling, and bench space allocation. Help plan succession batches around seasonal demand and sales velocity. Coordinate daily with fulfillment, customer service, and inventory so that what is growing matches what is being sold. Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas. Equipment & Facility Monitor irrigation systems, greenhouse structures, environmental controls, and production areas for problems. Promptly report leaks, equipment failures, control malfunctions, or structural damage. Follow all safety procedures when working around irrigation, fertilizers, chemicals, tools, and equipment. Qualifications Interest in horticulture, nursery production, greenhouse growing, agriculture, or plant science. Previous greenhouse, nursery, farm, landscaping, or plant care experience preferred but not required for the right candidate. Basic understanding of watering, fertility, plant health, and pest management is helpful. Strong attention to detail. Much of this job is judging individual plants one at a time. Comfortable with basic recordkeeping and using a phone, tablet, or computer for counts and crop notes. Able to follow directions, work independently, and communicate clearly with the team. Dependable, punctual, and a good teammate. Helpful, Not Required Experience growing a broad mix of crops in small quantities rather than large uniform blocks. Familiarity with shipping live plants, or with e-commerce or direct-to-consumer fulfillment. Experience with biological controls. Florida Private Applicator or Commercial Applicator license, or willingness to obtain one. Worker Protection Standard handler training will be provided. Conversational Spanish. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, lift, carry, and work on your feet for extended periods. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. as needed. Comfortable working in warm, humid, wet, and outdoor Florida conditions. Ability to safely handle plants, trays, pots, hoses, tools, fertilizers, and crop-care materials. Schedule & Location Based at our Apopka, Florida greenhouse. Regular schedule is Monday through Friday, 8-hour shifts. Some weekend and holiday coverage is required based on crop needs, weather events, and shipping schedules. Occasional travel to our other facility is required roughly every one to two weeks and is compensated. Compensation Starting at $22+/hr but base on experience
