A Nursing Assistant provides hospital and nursing home patients with basic care and assists them with daily activities. Helps patients with dressing, washing, and feeding. May perform basic medical care under the direction of a nurse or other medical professional. These roles typically require completion of a regional agency-approved training program in order to obtain a certification before practicing.
Under the supervision of assigned supervisor/manager, provides high quality patient care, for ages infant-geriatrics including documentation in accordance with hospital policies/protocols and standards of care. Based upon area of assignment, performs a variety of duties/responsibilities as noted below.
pushing/pulling maximum 50 pounds of force, lifting and carrying up to maximum 50 pounds, kneeling, crouching.
III. TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS
Exposed to infection and disease-bearing specimens; infectious and contagious diseases; hazards of handling diseased organs and tissues; odorous chemicals and specimens; housekeeping cleaning agents/chemicals; explosive chemicals, gases and low level radiation. Subjected to varying and unpredictable situations. Subjected to many interruptions and long irregular hours.
Required Personal Protection Equipment:
Eye protection, gown, mask, mask with face shield, non-sterile/sterile medical gloves, CAPR.
IV. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE
Ability to read, write, speak and understand English, both orally and in writing. Minimum one (1) year work experience as a Nurse Aide; or, o Diploma or certificate as a Nurse Aide. o Diploma or certificate as a Medical Assistant. o Diploma or certificate as an Emergency Medical Technician. o Diploma or certificate as Patient Care Technician. o Nursing student having completed a semester of clinical fundamentals; or, o RN with a foreign RN license with at least (1) year acute care experience. Nursing Aide certification may be required depending upon area of assignment. Current BLS certification.
B. EXPERIENCE
