Job Description

JOB SUMMARY
C.N.A.'s are certified nursing assistants prepared to assist the sick, disabled, and infirm at home when assigned, instructed and supervised by a registered nurse. This is considered supplemental to the skilled services provided by Home Health. The C.N.A. must work under the supervision of a registered nurse.
QUALIFICATIONS
C.N.A. must complete the supplemental skills checklist approved by the Idaho State Board of Nursing and must be included on their C.N.A Registry. Current CPR certification. Must have a TB test or X-ray as per protocol Must have a current Idaho State driver's license and current auto insurance. Reliable transportation Clearance of Criminal background check Must complete 12 hours of in-service yearly. Must be able to lift 75 pounds.
RESPONSIBILITIES
C.N.A. care will be provided to patients who have been determined to have the need for HHA services and physician order has been obtained. The specific personal care services to be provided by the aide are determined by the registered nurse for that patient. Primary function of a home health aide is to provide the personal care to the patient, under the supervision of a RN. Specific job functions include, but are not limited to: Vital signs and weight. Bathing; sponge, tub, shower, bed. Oral/Denture Care Assist patients with transfers and ambulation Care and shampoo of hair; shave for male patients. Feeding patients in and out of bed if appropriate. Giving and removing bed pans, catheter care, peri-care, collect voided urine specimen or stool specimen, enemas (unless post colon surgery), colostomy care of stable colostomy patient. Simple ROM, helping patient use orthopedic appliances under direction/supervision of PT or RN. Non sterile application of heat and cold, moist and dry, and ice. Use of foot board, bed cradle, heel/elbow protectors, trapeze bar, hand/trochanter rolls, special mattress and pads. Application of non-medicated protective skin preparations. Light housework necessary to maintain a clean, safe, healthy environment. Report changes in patient conditions and needs to the primary nurse. Report to primary Nurse any falls or patient complaints etc. Completes appropriate aide charting on each patient's record. Complete all paperwork and have in home health office by the end of next working day. Follows written instructions for patient care as outlined and prepared by the primary nurse. Responsible for following agency policies and procedures. Maintains ethical practices and confidentiality. Maintains appropriate dress and personal appearance for the department and according to home health dress code. A home health aide must receive training for all care duties not included in the supplemental skills checklist. The professional responsible for the specific services assures that training occurs. Written instructions for home care, including specific exercises, are prepared by a registered nurse or therapist as appropriate. Participates in in-service programs in addition to mandatory CPR, safety, and infection control programs as recorded on the education record. Will maintain a professional manner with all patients, regardless of their race, creed, physical or mental status, or diagnosis. Will not accept gifts or gratuities in the course of the job.
Working conditions:
Indoor air-conditioning, heat, electrical, microwave exposure, tactile proximity to patients. Works with rehab patients which have the potential of being depressing. Exposure to outdoor conditions year round, highway driving and home environments. Performs other duties as assigned to include, but not limited to: Answering the telephone. Filing and record keeping tasks. Assist in ordering and restocking supplies. Performs data entry as appropriate.
