SUMMARY STATEMENT
The CNA-I and Medical Assisting Programs Coordinator and Instructor will be a full-time Workforce Solutions and Continuing Education staff with Administrative and teaching responsibilities for the Certified Nursing Assistant and Medical Assisting programs. The individual will monitor the labs and classrooms for necessary equipment, work with all program adjuncts to ensure the Maryland Board of Nursing standards are employed and upheld and work directly with the students to apply for CNA-I licensure and register for State Licensure testing.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
Reports directly to WSCE Allied Health program manager and works closely with
WCPS CNA-I
coordinator and the lab coordinator. This position will also work closely with Allied Health instructors, clinical coordinator, workforce coordinator, and other WSCE staff to ensure the program is fully enrolled and meeting all educational standards.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Provide general supervision and oversight of CNA-I training, maintaining responsibility for the overall operation of the program as required for MBON program coordinators. Participate in development, evaluation, and continuous improvement of the CNA-I training program, including curriculum review, instructional materials, and learning resources. Implement the MBON approved training program, ensuring all course objectives and required content areas are delivered. Supervise classroom, laboratory, and clinical learning experiences, including direct supervision of students during initial performance of patient care skills until proficiency is demonstrated. Evaluate student performance in didactic, laboratory, and clinical settings, ensuring documentation aligns with MBON requirements. Ensure long term care instructional requirements are met, including integration of geriatrics, chronic care, and long term care competencies. Maintain communication and coordination with the Maryland Board of Nursing, including compliance reporting, program updates, and adherence to
COMAR 10.39.02.
Ensure adjunct instructors meet MBON faculty requirements, including licensure, experience, and adult education qualifications. Coordinate and monitor all course, clinical, and regulatory documentation, including attendance, skills checklists, clinical evaluations, and MBON required records. Assist students with CNA-I licensure applications and registration for state competency testing. Teach in classroom, skills lab, and clinical settings as assigned. Utilize evidence based teaching methods and student centered learning strategies. Maintain scheduled availability to students through office hours. Collaborate with faculty on course development, curriculum management, and instructional planning. Work with lab coordinators to maintain laboratories, supplies, and equipment. Maintain knowledge of college policies, practices, and Allied Health program requirements. Attend regular meetings with the WSCE Allied Health Program Manager. Develop and implement assessment tools to evaluate student learning and achievement of course outcomes. Advise students regarding program requirements and progression. Maintain current licensure, BLS, and specialty certifications. Participate in continuing education to maintain teaching and clinical expertise and meet clinical agency standards. Oversee Medical Assisting program software (NHA). Perform administrative duties as assigned. Other duties as assigned. Requirements
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Associate degree or at least 60 college credits and RN License required, bachelor's degree preferred. Experience with online learning platforms preferred. Candidates must be a registered nurse licensed to practice registered nursing in Maryland or have multistate licensure privilege to practice registered nursing in this State, have a minimum of 2 years of nursing experience, at least 1 year of which was in long-term care, and complete a course with a minimum of 16 hours of instruction in the principles of adult education or have a minimum of 2 years of teaching experience.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Proficient computer technology knowledge with hardware and software packages, especially all Microsoft Office software. Demonstrated knowledge and skill in planning, facilitating instruction, and assessing student learning. Superb written, oral and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to work a flexible schedule, and perform required duties with minimal supervision. Develop curriculum that meets Proven success as a flexible, positive, team player with the ability to work within a fast paced, multi-task project-oriented environment. Ability to take the initiative with project and support assignments. Proven collaborative project completion in a previous work setting. Ability to establish excellent professional working relationships with staff, students, and customers. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Must have a valid driver's license, with a good driving record.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
This position will work to oversee CNA-I program on the Hagerstown Community College campus and will also include classroom, lab, and clinical instruction. This position will also require the applicant to hold office hours to meet with students, staff, and administration. This individual will be required to participate in HCC events and training. Working hours will vary depending on course offerings.
