JOB SUMMARY
The Nursing Assistant / Transporter at North Mississippi Health Services is responsible for providing routine nurse aid procedures and tasks related to patient care at the clinic under nurse supervision. Additionally, the role involves assessing transportation needs, transporting patients, and documenting relevant information in the patients' medical records and MIS system.JOB FUNCTIONS
Patient Care:
- Performs routine nurse aid procedures and tasks related to patient care at the clinic under the supervision of a nurse.
- Assess the transportation needs of the patient.
- Performs duties assigned to meet personal needs and comfort of patients.
- Assist with patient mobility, transfers, repositioning, and ambulation using proper body mechanics and lifting equipment.
- Support fall prevention and safety initiatives by maintaining a safe and clean patient care environment.
- Provide emotional support and communicate effectively with patients and families.
- Assist nursing staff with routine patient care in medical-surgical units, specialty units, or emergency departments.
- Respond to call lights and patient requests promptly.
- Assist with post-procedure or post-operative care tasks as delegated.
- Support admission, discharge, and transfer processes, including patient preparation and transport.
- Clean and stock exam rooms, ensuring supplies and equipment are available for clinical staff.
- Provide support for minor procedures and point-of-care activities within scope.
- Assist patients with entering and exiting the facility safely.
Communication:
- Greets patient in a courteous and helpful manner.
- Effectively communicates with staff members.
- Reflect a positive image to all customers, patients, staff, physicians and the general public.
- Communicate effectively with nurses, providers, and interdisciplinary team members to support coordinated patient care.
- Provide clear handoff communication when transporting or transferring patients.
- Demonstrate professionalism and cultural sensitivity in all interactions.
Documentation:
- Documents in the patients' medical record (attendance) and MIS system as appropriate for position (Vital signs, weights, meals).
Education:
- Maintain continuing education requirements.
Transport:
- Safely transport patients via wheelchair, stretcher, or bed to and from departments such as radiology, therapy, surgery, and outpatient clinics.
- Verify patient identity and transport orders prior to movement in accordance with safety protocols.
- Monitor patient condition during transport and report concerns immediately to clinical staff.
- Ensure proper handling of oxygen tanks, IV poles, drains, and other medical equipment during transport.
- Maintain transport equipment cleanliness and readiness in compliance with infection prevention standards.
- Prioritize transport requests based on urgency, patient condition, and scheduling needs.
Regulatory:
- Adheres to the
NMHS/NMMC
Policies/Procedures/Guidelines.- Complies with applicable local/state/federal procedures/guidelines/regulations.
- Follow infection control procedures, including hand hygiene, PPE use, and isolation precautions.
- Adhere to HIPAA and confidentiality standards at all times.
- Comply with hospital and ambulatory care policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in quality improvement, patient satisfaction, and safety initiatives.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education- High School Diploma or GED Equivalent . Preferred. Licenses and Certifications

- Knowledge of safe operations of vehicle and determined best route for picking up/delivering patients efficiently and safely
- Knowledge of how to physically assist all passengers on and off the vehicle
- Maintains knowledge and resources necessary to provide age appropriate care adults/geriatric patients
- Must have good written and verbal communication skills.
- Utilizes and cares for equipment at the clinic and on van
- Must be able to prioritize patient care, carry out assigned duties, and determine best transportation route
- Assumes additional duties as delegated or needed
- Performs essential functions with minimal supervision
- Understand patient rights, confidentiality, organization ethics and adheres to these standards at all times
- Promotes harmony at clinic and with other departments
- Demonstrates effective interpersonal skills
