What they do

A Recreational Therapist directs and coordinates recreational activities for people with disabilities or illness to help them improve their emotional and physical well-being, improve motor skills and increase confidence. Leads activities involving movement, sports, games, and other activities for brain stimulation. Assists patients with disabilities to learn to use public resources such as parks and public transportation, and integrate in the community. Works with people of all ages, in schools, nursing homes, clinics and other healthcare facilities, or in parks and recreation departments.

Job Description

Clinical:
\
  • Evaluates and establishes treatment plan for all patients referred to Recreational Therapy \
  • Performs leisure counseling and skill building \
  • Remain competent in: Evaluation/Assessment skills; Planning and implementation of group and individual activities; Leisure adaptive equipment \
  • Attends and provides continuing education inservices \
  • Works variable hours and shares responsibility for weekend coverage of recreation/activity programs.

  • Remains within monthly budget when planning recreational activities
Other:

  • Must be competent in use of computer for documentation purposes
Job Knowledge:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Therapeutic Recreation required
  • Certified as Therapeutic Recreation Specialist required
  • CPR certification required
  • Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to work with/treat adult and geriatric patients. _We believe a career is more than just a career
