This vital role ensures the health and safety of the individuals we serve by managing all aspects of their medication needs. The Medication Technician will be responsible for a comprehensive range of duties, including ordering and securing prescriptions, conducting in-home medication checks, and maintaining accurate Medication Administration Records (MARs). This position requires a thorough understanding of and adherence to New Mexico Developmental Disabilities (DD) Waiver program standards and a commitment to the mission of Hearts of Hope to foster independence and improve the quality of life for those we support.
Key Responsibilities:
Medication Ordering and Procurement:
Proactively order and refill medications from pharmacies, ensuring a continuous and uninterrupted supply for individuals served. Secure and transport prescriptions in a timely and safe manner.
In-Home Medication Management:
Conduct regular visits to individuals' homes to organize medication containers, check for expired medications, and ensure proper storage.
- Medication Administration Record (MAR)
Management:
Meticulously maintain and update MARs for each individual, documenting all administered medications accurately and in accordance with New Mexico DD Waiver regulations.
Collaboration and Communication:
Serve as a key liaison between individuals served, their families, healthcare providers, and pharmacy staff to ensure seamless coordination of care.
Quality Assurance:
Perform routine audits of medication storage, administration, and documentation to ensure compliance with all agency policies and state regulations.
Training and Support:
Provide guidance and support to individuals and direct support staff on proper medication administration procedures and potential side effects, as appropriate.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Certification as a Medication Aide in the state of New Mexico is highly preferred.
- Proven experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities is a strong asset.
- Thorough knowledge of medication administration protocols and a commitment to safety.
- Exceptional organizational skills and a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with diverse individuals.
- A valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and proof of auto insurance are required.
- Must be able to pass a comprehensive background check.
