QUALIFICATIONS
Required :
Ability to read, write and make basic mathematical computations; Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions accurately; Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and surgeons ; Ability to collaborate with surgeons and coworkers; Ability to work in a team environment, with little supervision; Ability to exercise good judgment and effective problem solving skills; Ability to practice universal precautions in exposure to communicable diseases and body fluids; Ability to communicate directions.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS
Requires prolonged standing, twisting, turning and manual dexterity. Requires frequent bending, stooping and stretching. Lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally. Pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds frequently. Ability to prioritize and organize tasks and workload demands efficiently. Tolerance of exposure to cleaning agents and chemicals. Present a professional demeanor. Able to cope with high stress levels. Required exposure to communicable diseases and body fluids.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Transports patients to and from surgery and PACU when requested, in a safe manner. Assists Operating Room personnel in positioning patients. Assists Operating Room personnel in setting up cases; Open sterile items to surgical field. Cleans and maintains items and areas of surgery between cases, end of day, weekly schedules and monthly maintenance, decontamination of operating room and all removable equipment between cases. Collects, segregates and disposes of all waste materials in all areas. Maintains levels of scrub supplies and solutions, caps and shoe covers, cleaning supplies and solutions. Removes and replaces all linen on patient beds and gurneys as necessary. Cleans and maintains autoclaves every other week. Operates and maintains all equipment used in meeting job responsibilities. Develops a working familiarity of all precautions, use and disposal methods of all chemical used in the normal course of meeting job responsibilities. Demonstrates competence in relation to the defined mission, vision, values, and strategic plan of the organization by ongoing completion of any or all of the following: proficiency testing, skill demonstration, practice of core standards for service excellence, and documentation review. Ability to work all shifts; Flexibility of altering work schedules to meet department needs. Assists with training of new employees. Ability to cross-train to other operational areas. Completes required hours of orthopedic education topics annually as directed by the Ortho Steering team for the Hip and Knee program certification. Meets clinical competencies of hip and knee certification program in order to directly care for a Hip and Knee patient.
