If you're passionate about patient care, we invite you to explore this opportunity today. Enrollment in nursing school is highly preferred. This position is casual, 36 hours required per 6-week period. Title and salary will be determined based upon education and experience.
Responsibilities:
Provide direct patient care under RN supervision, including bathing, feeding, toileting, ambulating, transporting, turning, and repositioning patients. Perform nursing assistant core duties, including vital signs, blood glucose testing, weights, intake and output monitoring, specimen collection, Foley care, telemetry application/reapplication, and patient safety prevention measures. Monitor and report changes in patient condition to the RN and respond appropriately to emergent situations within scope of practice. Maintain a safe, clean, and organized patient care environment by completing safety checks, cleaning equipment, changing linens, and ensuring hallways and patient rooms remain clutter-free. Stock, distribute, and manage supplies and equipment to support patient care and unit operations. Deliver patient nourishments, refill water pitchers, distribute mail, and assist with meal tray delivery. Respond to call lights, answer telephones, transport patients, and assist with routine unit and clerical functions. Provide one-on-one patient observation, companionship, and diversional activities as needed to support patient safety and reduce restraint use. Apply, monitor, and remove restraints in accordance with physician orders and hospital protocols. Document patient care activities accurately in the medical record following established procedures. Report equipment malfunctions and ensure proper maintenance and functioning of patient care equipment. Follow all safety standards, infection prevention practices, standard precautions, and bloodborne pathogen protocols. Demonstrate effective communication, teamwork, professionalism, and respect with patients, families, and healthcare team members. Support a culture of safety, accountability, diversity, and patient-centered care. Participate in ongoing learning, accept feedback constructively, identify development needs, and contribute to process improvements within the department. Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, confidentiality requirements, and patient care standards. High school diploma or GED. Successful completion of UPMC nursing assistant training program. Knowledge of body mechanics and transfer techniques. Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) preferred.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
