Full-Time Position Overview We are seeking a Birth Assistant to join a midwife-led birth center in Charleston, SC. The practice provides patient-centered, low-intervention maternity care and supports families throughout pregnancy, labor, birth, and the postpartum period. Responsibilities Assist Certified Nurse Midwives (CNMs) with labor, delivery, postpartum, and newborn care. Provide direct patient care, emotional support, and patient education. Assist with urgent situations and hospital transfers when needed. Administer medications and treatments as directed. Perform laboratory duties and assist with daily clinic operations. Communicate effectively with patients, families, staff, and outside healthcare providers. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized birth center environment. Participate in emergency drills, staff meetings, and quality improvement activities. Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Active South Carolina RN or CPM license . At least 1 year of experience in maternal/child health, labor and delivery, and/or neonatal care. Birth center experience preferred. Current adult and neonatal CPR certification . Requirements Strong knowledge of pregnancy, labor and delivery, postpartum, and newborn care. Excellent communication and teamwork skills. Ability to remain calm and effective in stressful situations. Must live within 30 minutes of the birth center while on call .
