A Nursing Assistant provides hospital and nursing home patients with basic care and assists them with daily activities. Helps patients with dressing, washing, and feeding. May perform basic medical care under the direction of a nurse or other medical professional. These roles typically require completion of a regional agency-approved training program in order to obtain a certification before practicing.
The HCA/CNA provides compassionate, person-centered care and assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs) to residents in an adult family home setting. This role ensures resident dignity, safety, and quality of life while adhering to the home's care policies and state regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist residents with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) including: Bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, incontinence care Mobility and transfers (e.g., bed to chair) Feeding and hydration Monitor and report changes in resident health or behavior Provide medication assistance in accordance with state regulations (HCA or CNA with nurse delegation if applicable) Assist with meal preparation and serve meals/snacks per dietary requirements Perform basic housekeeping and laundry duties to maintain a clean, safe environment Support residents with social engagement and recreational activities Accurately document care tasks, vitals, and incidents in daily logs or electronic records Follow care plans, behavior support plans, and other individualized protocols Maintain resident dignity, confidentiality, and rights always Respond appropriately to emergencies and follow safety protocols Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and ongoing education Comfortable providing care and support to individuals with behavioral health diagnoses in a safe, respectful, and therapeutic home environment
Qualifications:
Current Washington State HCA or CNA license/certification (required) Nurse Delegation Certification (preferred or required depending on duties) Current CPR/First Aid Certification Negative TB test and cleared background check Knowledge of dementia care, mental health, and/or developmental disabilities (preferred) Ability to lift, transfer, and assist residents safely Good communication, time management, and teamwork skills Compassionate, patient, and respectful demeanor Dementia Specialty Mental health Specialty 9-hr Core delegation 3-hr Focus on diabetes Food Handlers card Experience working with individuals living with behavioral health conditions is preferred; candidates must be comfortable providing compassionate, person-centered care to residents with behavioral health needs
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and lift up to 50 lbs Perform physical tasks throughout an 8-12-hour shift
