ESSENTIAL AND OTHER IMPORTANT FUNCTIONS STATEMENTS

Essential and other importantresponsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Essential Functions:

Provideclassroom, clinical, and laboratory instruction to students. Prepare lesson plans and schedule classroom activities; develop andprepare supplemental materials to enhance textbook lessons. Develop and prepare tests to evaluate student performance; grade andrecord individual scores. Act as an advisor and counselor to students; provide individual assistance to students outside of theclassroom as needed. Provide classroom demonstrations on various equipment; develop laboratory assignments to provide hands onexperience as appropriate. Participate in curriculum development, evaluation and change; attend faculty meetings asrequired. Maintain accurate records of student attendance and performance; maintain other records and data bases according toprogram needs or accreditation requirements. Stay abreast of new developments and changes in various academic fields; participate instaff development programs, workshops, seminars and other continuing education programs as appropriate. Oversee the implementationof policies and procedures related to required teaching area. Participate on college committees and in other institutionalactivities and programs.

Other Important Functions:

Fill in for other instructors as needed. Assess therelevancy and impact of various lessons; revise and improve lesson format; evaluate various textbooks and other learning resources to beused for future classes. Assist in the recruitment of students. Oversee and participate in clinical assignments; travel toclinical agencies to provide assistance and instruction as appropriate. Participate in a variety of student related administrativeactivities including reviewing admission requirements, progress and qualifications for graduation. Demonstrate competence regarding thehandling of hazardous substances such as blood borne pathogens; continually undergo training and train students in suchprocedures. Demonstrate community involvement (required of all nursing faculty). Participate in all functions related toimplementation of the programs systematic plan for evaluation. QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:

Classroom and laboratory instructional techniques and procedures. Principles and procedures of academic and instructionalprogram development. Current trends, research and development in the area of assignment. Principles and procedures of recordkeeping. Principles and techniques involved in test development and administration. Pertinent Federal, State, and locallaws, codes and regulations.

Ability To:

Interpret and apply college goals, objectives, policies,procedures, rules and regulations. Interpret and apply Federal, State and local policies, procedures, laws andregulations. Communicate clearly and respectfully, both orally and in writing. Establish and maintain cooperative workingrelationships with those contacted in the course of work. EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES

Minimum Education/Training:

A Master's Degree in Nursing. Must have a current, unrestricted North Carolina RNlicense. Have education in teaching and learning principles for adult education, including curriculum development,implementation, and evaluation, appropriate to assignment. Once completed, this education need not be repeated if employing organization ischanged. This education may be demonstrated by one of the following: (A) completion of 45 contact hours of Board-approved continuingeducation courses; (B) completion of a certificate program in nursing education; (C) nine semester hours of graduate coursework in adult learning and learning principles; (D) national certification in nursing education; or (E) documentation ofcompletion of structured, individualized development activities of at least 45 contact hours approved by the Board. Criteria for approvalshall include content in the faculty role in curriculum implementation, curricular objectives to be met and evaluated, review of strategiesfor identified student population, and expectations of student and faculty performance. Have knowledge of current nursingpractice for the registered nurse and the licensed practical nurse.

Minimum Experience :

For nursing faculty, aminimum of two calendar years of prior full-time employment or the equivalent in clinical nursing practice as an RN.

PreferredEducation/Training, Experience, Skills :

Experience teaching in a nursing program that prepares graduates at entry level to take the

NCLEX-RN
