Full Job Description Job Overview:
Curious Flora Nursery is a nursery with deeply-established roots in the local community and Bay Area horticulture. We are a production and retail nursery growing a remarkable selection of plants at our 2.5-acre nursery located in Richmond CA. We grow a selection of annual and perennial plants by seeds and cuttings in 4" containers. We specialize in California native and Mediterranean climate-sourced plants, as well as heirloom cottage garden classics, and botanical curiosities. This is a highly collaborative work environment. We're looking for a passionate and experienced horticulturist to join our team and help build on our long tradition of supplying a wonderful assortment of quality plants to Northern California gardeners. At Curious Flora Nursery we grow and sell a unique selection of annual and perennial plant material. As our Production Manager, you will oversee the day-to-day operations of our production nursery. Working closely with the Propagation Manager and Prop Support team, you will provide technical leadership, monitor crop performance, and implement best growing practices that support our production goals. You will work with retail management and office staff to ensure that the retail nursery is well-stocked with healthy plant material and that our wholesale customers receive quality material. This role is critical to our continued growth. Role and Responsibilities- Provide ongoing horticultural training to retail and production team staff
- Schedule and hire for the Production team
- Provide guidance on irrigation, fertilization, pruning, and general plant care
- Supervise production team operations, ensuring workflow is timely and efficient
- Work with management and staff to ensure that the production nursery space is safe, clean, and easy to navigate
- Assist office staff in transition to digital inventory system
- Oversee inventory, including the movement of plant material through retail and wholesale channels
- Oversee Integrated Pest Management
- Work closely with ownership to identify and execute on areas of growth potential
- Collaborate with ownership on the further development of product lines to ensure that Curious Flora Nursery is meeting market demands
- Develop SOPs and training programs to ensure that work is performed efficiently
- Work closely with ownership to develop and manage production
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
- Give directives to retail nursery management in order to assist and support the goals of the production team Your Experience
- 4 years of nursery experience, including production, employee management, and general nursery operations, is required.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Horticulture, Plant Science, or Agronomy related field is preferred
- Strong understanding of ornamental plant care, irrigation, and fertilization
- Knowledge of Integrated Pest Management including pest identification, pesticide application equipment, general use of pesticides, and the safe handling of pesticides
- Must have or be able to obtain a PAC license within 30 days of employment. Employer is willing to provide training material to meet this requirement
- An ability to communicate clearly and direct assigned crews as needed
- Ability to analyze business metrics and drive performance improvements
- Experience managing budgets, labor costs, and operational expenses
- Possess strong coaching and team development skills
- Ability to lift 50 lbs and perform outdoor work rain or shine
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Spanish language skills preferred Pay and Benefits Hourly, $32-$46 per hour.
