At RWJBarnabas Health, our Charge Nurses at Children's Specialized Hospital combine clinical expertise with compassionate leadership to help children achieve meaningful rehabilitation goals. As a Charge Nurse supporting the Infant/Toddler Inpatient Rehabilitation Department in New Brunswick, you'll provide hands-on pediatric nursing care while guiding and supporting the team responsible for some of our youngest patients. Partnering with the Nurse Manager and an experienced interdisciplinary rehabilitation team, you'll help coordinate safe, high-quality care, mentor nursing professionals, and create an environment where patients, families, and team members feel supported. As a Charge Nurse (RN), a typical day may include: Coordinating, implementing, and evaluating safe, individualized nursing care for infants and toddlers with complex medical, developmental, and rehabilitation needs Providing direct nursing care and patient and family education while remaining a visible clinical resource for nursing team members Supporting the Nurse Manager with day-to-day clinical operations, quality of nursing care, staffing needs, and team performance during the assigned shift Assigning and delegating patient care based on acuity, staff experience, competencies, clinical knowledge, and the individualized needs of each patient Serving as a clinical resource and mentor by demonstrating unit-specific expertise and supporting nurses through complex patient care situations Participating in the orientation, development, supervision, and ongoing education of nursing personnel while encouraging continued professional growth Coaching and motivating team members to strengthen performance, improve patient outcomes, and maintain high standards of pediatric rehabilitation care Collaborating with physicians, therapists, nursing professionals, and other departments to promote coordinated, interdisciplinary, and family-centered care Monitoring the availability and appropriate utilization of equipment, supplies, and clinical resources needed to support safe and efficient unit operations Supporting a positive team environment through effective communication, conflict management, relationship building, and respectful performance management Maintaining clinical competency as a Registered Nurse while ensuring nursing practices remain consistent with regulatory requirements, professional practice guidelines, and organizational standards Providing additional nursing leadership by fulfilling relief supervisor and on-call responsibilities when assigned This role might be for you if: You are passionate about caring for infants and toddlers with complex medical and rehabilitation needs while helping other nurses deliver their best care You enjoy remaining clinically involved while taking on greater responsibility for coordinating patient care and supporting unit operations Strong clinical judgment allows you to confidently prioritize patient needs, delegate responsibilities, and serve as a resource during complex situations You find purpose in mentoring, coaching, and developing nursing professionals at different stages of their careers You communicate clearly and can navigate difficult conversations or conflicts with professionalism, fairness, and respect You thrive in an interdisciplinary environment where nurses, physicians, therapists, families, and other professionals work together toward individualized rehabilitation goals You lead by example and value accountability, teamwork, patient safety, and continuous improvement You understand that exceptional pediatric rehabilitation care requires supporting the child and family as well as the team providing their care To be considered for this Charge Nurse opportunity, you must hold an active New Jersey Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing and meet the nursing education, certification, and clinical competency requirements established by Children's Specialized Hospital for inpatient pediatric rehabilitation nursing. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong pediatric clinical expertise, leadership ability, communication, delegation, conflict management, and critical thinking skills, along with the ability to effectively coordinate patient care and support the development and performance of nursing team members. Candidates should be comfortable maintaining an active clinical presence while assisting the Nurse Manager with staffing, quality, team performance, and day-to-day unit operations. This is a day shift opportunity supporting the Infant/Toddler Inpatient Rehabilitation Department at Children's Specialized Hospital in New Brunswick, with relief supervisor and on-call responsibilities as assigned.
