Summary:

The role of the Nurse Navigator is a professional RN with oncology-specific clinical knowledge who offers individualized assistance to patients, families, and caregivers to help overcome healthcare system barriers. Using the nursing process, a Nurse Navigator provides education and resources to facilitate informed decision making and timely access to quality health and psychosocial care throughout all phases of the cancer continuum. The Patient Nurse Navigator should provide services from prevention and screening activities and facilitate care transitions through diagnosis, treatment, survivorship, and end-of-life care. Functions as a liaison between the physician, patient/significant other, and third-party payers to coordinate necessary services to facilitate care.

Education:

In addition to the skills normally obtained through completion of a High School education, must also have a bachelor's degree in nursing.

Licensure:

Hold a current Rhode Island licensure and obtain Oncology Nurse Navigator Certified Generalist through Academy of Nurse and Patient Navigators license upon hire.

Experience:

Prior experience in outpatient nursing setting preferably oncology, substantial knowledge of healthcare system, Federal and State Regulations.
