General Purpose The Charge Nurse is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the nursing unit in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards governing long-term care facilities. This role ensures that residents consistently receive the highest quality of care and services.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities Note:

Administrative & Operational Oversight Assist in planning, organizing, evaluating, and directing the nursing service department's daily functions. Ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and care standards across the department. Maintain updated nursing manuals and reference materials. Prepare medical forms, evaluations, reports, and administrative documentation as needed. Assist in preparing and managing the department budget. Handle issues concerning resident care and family concerns. Clinical & Resident Care Functions Conduct resident assessments and nursing diagnoses. Develop, implement, and review resident care plans in coordination with the interdisciplinary team. Provide health education to residents and families. Authorize and document use of restraints per facility policy. Monitor physician visits and ensure timely response. Review nurses' documentation for accuracy and completeness. Care Planning & Quality Assurance Participate in the development and review of MDS, RAPs, and Triggers. Coordinate care plan meetings and ensure all involved staff are informed and aligned. Encourage family involvement in care plan development. Support facility's Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) initiatives. Education & Training Assist the In-Service Director in planning and delivering annual mandatory training programs (OSHA, HIPAA, Infection Control, etc.). Provide ongoing coaching and professional development to nursing staff. Team Collaboration & Supervision Make daily rounds to ensure quality nursing practices and address any performance concerns. Support and mentor staff, promoting best practices and professional development. Maintain open communication with all departments to ensure cohesive care delivery. Additional Responsibilities Perform general nursing duties during emergencies or staff shortages. Maintain resident confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA. Complete required documentation according to company, state, and federal guidelines. Participate in performance reviews and staff evaluations as needed. Support the integration of new nursing practices or technologies. Supervisory Requirements This position includes supervisory responsibility for assigned nursing staff within the unit. The Charge Nurse assists in performance management, staff development, and compliance oversight. Qualifications Education & Experience Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing (Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred). Active, unencumbered nursing license in good standing with the State Board of Nursing. Minimum 1-3 years of supervisory nursing experience preferred. Must meet all continuing education and licensing requirements. Skills & Competencies Strong leadership, organizational, and critical thinking abilities. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to handle sensitive interactions tactfully. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; knowledge of PCC (PointClickCare) preferred. Ability to adapt to new methods and incorporate innovations into practice. Language & Communication Able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English. Capable of interpreting policies, procedures, and regulations. Mathematical & Reasoning Skills Proficient in applying basic math concepts including fractions, ratios, and percentages. Able to solve practical problems and interpret various forms of instruction. Physical Demands Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, and use office equipment. Frequent use of computers, phones, scanners, copiers, and calculators. Ability to travel by automobile or airline if required. Work Environment Standard nursing and administrative environment with moderate noise levels.
