JOB SUMMARY

The Lead Nurse (RN) assists physicians in the delivery of nursing care and patient education. The Lead Nurse interviews patients, performs treatments, distributes medications, documents medical records and coordinates care for clinic patients. The Lead Nurse works closely with physicians and patients and must exhibit effective communication skills as well as caring professionalism when dealing with patients and their families. The Lead Nurse assists the Office Manager in developing and implementing clinical policies, procedures and competencies, and serves as primary preceptor in the training and development of clinical staff. The Lead Nurse serves as a clinical resource for staff and is a liaison between physicians and the clinical team.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Job Specific:

Interview patients, obtaining vital signs, such as pulse, blood pressure, temperature, height and weight, and documenting information in the patient's chart. (EF) Prepare treatment room for patient examinations. (EF) Operate equipment to administer routine diagnostic tests; also, coordinate scheduling for patients receiving tests outside the clinic. (EF) Return patient phone calls, and call patients with test results. (EF) Authorize prescription refills. (EF) Complete all documentation associated with aforementioned responsibilities within eMDs. (EF) Keep all areas stocked and neat in appearance. (EF) Assists Office Manager with interviewing/hiring. Coordinate with the Office manager to develop a training plan for clinical staff and evaluate clinical staff competencies. (EF) Serve as a clinical resource for staff. (EF) Acts as a liaison between physicians and clinical staff. (EF) Develop processes to improve efficiency in patient care. Review clinic schedules and make determination on adding/re-scheduling patients in coordination with the Office Manager.

Performs within the prescribed limits of the hospital's Ethics, Compliance and Confidentiality Program guidelines. Performs within his/her professional Scope of Practice at all times.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Required:

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing

EXPERIENCE

Required:

Minimum one year experience in a clinic setting.

Preferred:

Three years of experience in a clinic setting with some supervisory experience.

SPECIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Required:

Effective communication skills (written and verbal). Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.

LICENSURE / CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Required:

Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse by the state of Texas.
