  • 8•12 hours Scope As a NICU Nutrition Diet Tech you need to know how to: Act as a receptionist for mothers who are dropping off and storing expressed breast milk in the hospital.
Ensure appropriate education for proper labeling, transport and storage. Retrieve daily orders for feedings. Calculate new formulations or standardized recipes. Obtain verification formulation with the NICU registered dietitian or patients provider as needed. Prepare expressed breast milk, donor milk or formula according to provider order. Label and scan all feedings per NICU guideline. Distribute prepared feedings to the bedside at appropriate intervals. Clean and sterilize the equipment used for daily milk/formula preparation and any other reusable feeding equipment. Ensure proper operation of all equipment and report problems to the appropriate supervisor. Clean and disinfect returned grant and rental breast pumps. Maintain all refrigerators, freezers, coolers and any other equipment used for storing or transporting feedings, and maintain daily temperature logs for prep room appliances. Participate as a member of the NICU Nutrition Committee. Participate as a member of Quality Assurance Team that develops and reviews plan for all steps in milk preparation and administration according to HACCP process. Report to the NICU Manager and secondarily to the NICU Lactation Consultant. . Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent Minimum of one (1) year in a direct care hospital or clinic office setting with exposure to all day-to-day operational functions Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology Demonstrated ability to prioritize and organize tasks in a fast paced setting Excellent math skills with the ability to pass a timed math test Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical procedures/policies related to the NICU Nutrition Room as well as demonstrate knowledge and skill in pasteurization/aseptic technique and in basic milk expression management and techniques Preferred Qualifications Pediatric or subspecialty experience Bilingual proficiency in
