Job Description

Category Schools - Orientation and Mobility Specialist Job Type Contract Step into an impactful opportunity supporting students as a contract Orientation and Mobility Specialist. This part-time, .2 FTE position serves four students for the full school year, offering you the chance to make a meaningful difference in their educational journeys. Ideal candidates possess strong experience working in school settings, demonstrating the ability to assess and support students with visual impairments. Your expertise will empower students to navigate their environments confidently, building critical skills for independence and participation in the classroom.
Key Qualifications:
Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) certification required Prior experience supporting students with visual impairments, ideally within schools Strong communication and collaboration skills to work with multidisciplinary educational teams, students, and families Ability to develop, implement, and monitor individualized O&M programs Understanding of assistive technology and mobility devices as they pertain to student needs Flexibility working in a part-time (.2 FTE) contract role for the academic year
Role Responsibilities:
Provide direct, individualized O&M instruction to four students as outlined in their IEPs Conduct student assessments and develop customized plans to address each student's mobility and orientation needs Train students in the use of mobility aids, adaptive techniques, and safe navigation within the school and community environments Consult with teachers, staff, and families to ensure student progress and facilitate access to curriculum and spaces Maintain thorough documentation and collaborate in IEP meetings, providing updates and recommendations Immerse yourself in a supportive educational environment while exercising your clinical expertise and compassion.
