Occupational Therapist

Primary Accountability:
The OTR is responsible for the evaluation and management of patients and their plan of care as well as providing treatment to help patients develop and maintain their ability to complete everyday tasks related to their daily life.
Major Duties:
Is responsible for Initial Evaluation and follow-through of care. Evaluates/assesses all orders for Occupational Therapy. Consistently carries out and is knowledgeable in all modalities and/or therapies appropriately and within given policies and procedures. Maintains and cares for equipment in a knowledgeable and careful manner. Will re-assess or re-evaluate any patient/client weekly if the Certified Occupational Therapist is involved in the plan of care. Appropriately documents all progress reports for treatments within departmental policies and procedures. Is involved in overall care of patient/client for Occupational Therapy. Is responsible for discharge of patient/client in consideration of achievement of goals, expected outcomes, the lack of ability to progress, or no longer benefiting from skilled Occupational Therapy services. Assists with quality initiative/quality improvement plans. Follows procedures to ensure supplies are used in an efficient manner to avoid waste. Attends continuing education seminars that will improve the ability to care for our patient/client population. Confers with members of the Physical Therapy staff and other health team members to exchange, discuss and assess patient information for planning, modifying and coordinating treatment programs. Performs various clerical tasks, such as taking inventory, ordering supplies, answering the telephone, taking messages, and filling out forms. Measures patient's range of motion, length and girth of body parts, and vital signs to determine effects of body parts as well as the effects of special treatment. Seeks feedback from patients/customers to identify any areas of improvement. Transports patients from room to department if necessary. Assists in developing and participating in various programs in educating Gove County Medical Center staff. Helps maintain equipment and work area in a clean and orderly fashion. Works conscientiously and efficiently. Is concerned about overtime and does not exceed time allowed for lunch or other breaks. Maintains records of each patient including diagnosis, treatment, progress, record of attendance, time in and out, and summary. Covers other facilities for occupational therapy and oversees the COTA at Gove County Medical Center and other facilities.
Qualifications:
Must graduate from an accredited Occupational Therapy Program and be licensed in the practicing state. Clinical experience during schooling. Employment experience as on OT is preferred, not required. Myofascial experience is preferred, not required. Must be BLS certified within 60 days of hire.
Physical Demands:
Eye/Hand, Eye/Foot and Hand/Foot Coordination. Normal eyesight, with or without corrective lenses. Normal hearing, with or without hearing aids. Motor coordination and manual dexterity. The ability to bend, stoop, crawl, and kneel. The ability to exert 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly.
Work Environment:
Well-lit/well-ventilated work area; close visual work. Prolonged amount of sitting, standing and walking throughout the day. Subject to frequent interruptions. May be exposed to infectious and contagious diseases. Meet and talk with a wide variety of employees, visitors and patients. Exposure to unpleasant elements such as accidents, illnesses and injuries. Able to work under emergent situations as necessary. Requires judgement/action in life/death situations.
