Job Description

Step into a pivotal contract opportunity as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) serving students along the picturesque Southeast Texas Coast. Your expertise will help meet a significant need for specialized support, as the current supply of certified professionals in the region is limited. Engage directly with learners in a part-time capacity (approximately 20 hours per week), making a measurable impact within the upcoming school year, from August through May.
Qualifications & Licensure:
Active Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) certification required AVCREP certification (or equivalent) required Must be able to complete Texas fingerprinting and credentialing promptly if not already completed Prior experience in a school setting preferred, working with a range of student ages Commitment to supporting students with visual impairments and empowering independence Strong communication, collaboration, and adaptability skills
Primary Responsibilities:
Deliver direct orientation and mobility instruction to assigned students as indicated by their individualized education programs Assess student needs, develop tailored mobility goals, and implement effective learning strategies Collaborate with multidisciplinary education teams, including teachers, administrators, and families Travel to multiple school sites as required; number of locations to be determined Maintain accurate records of services, progress, and required documentation Participate in ongoing meetings and professional development, supporting best practices in O&M education
