Key Qualifications:

Certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) Proven experience working with students in K-12 school settings Familiarity with individualized education program (IEP) processes and the ability to develop, implement, and monitor student goals Strong communication, collaboration, and assessment skills Compassionate, patient, and dedicated to empowering students with visual impairments

Core Responsibilities:

Assess students' orientation and mobility needs utilizing formal and informal tools Design and deliver effective mobility training programs tailored to each student's abilities and goals Collaborate with teachers, paraprofessionals, and families to foster supportive learning environments Provide guidance and strategies to maximize confidence and independence in navigating school, home, and community settings Regularly document progress and participate in student meetings to share observations and recommendations Stay current with best practices in the field and adapt methods as needed
