An Occupational Therapy Aide assists occupational therapists and technicians to help patients with injuries, illnesses, or disabilities. Sets up treatment areas and equipment, handles clerical tasks, and helps move patients. Works in the office of an occupational therapist or an healthcare setting.
Rehabilitation Aides assist the office staff and clinicians in performing required administrative and clinical duties. They will assist in maintaining strong relationships with the patients and work under the direct supervision of the therapists and therapist assistants during therapy treatments. All job duties will be performed in compliance with current state practice act guidelines.
Essential Functions:
Performs such activities as application and heat/cold, massage, traction, non-complex exercise programs and ambulation training. Assists patients as required in preparation for treatment procedures, e.g. dressing, on/off treatment tables, in/out of treatment area, etc.
Communicates with licensed professionals re:
patient questions/comments, change in patient status, revised treatment programs, etc. Assists with other tasks within the facility when requested as patient care activities permit; e.g. laundry, filing, cleaning, etc. Assist with unskilled treatment tasks under the direct supervision of a licensed therapist or therapist assistant. Prepare treatment areas, patients, and equipment for treatment. Maintains cleanliness of equipment and treatment areas during and after treatment. Demonstrate basic computer navigation skills to utilize electronic medical records according to job duties. Assist administrative staff with patient scheduling and answering phones when required. Demonstrate professionalism in all interactions with patients and staff members. Maintain compliance with HIPPA and company privacy policies. Maintain cleanliness of equipment and supplies. Reports equipment problems or stock shortages. Qualifications/Skills:
Must have good oral and written communication skill and ability to follow direction. Must be able to work with all age groups. Develops clinical skills through on-the-job training by licensed professionals. Must be able to work independently under direction/supervision of appropriate licensed personnel as a member of the interdisciplinary team. Must have good customer service. Must have good time management and organizational skills. Must be able to maintain confidentiality of patient information.
Education/ Experience Requirements:
High School Degree or equivalent preferred. Experience in customer service or health care related field preferred.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed in a well-lit, busy environment, with multiple individuals working at one time. Possibility of exposure to blood borne pathogens and infections materials. Standing and waling occasionally (up to 15 minutes at a time 3-4 hours per day) Sitting for extended periods of time. Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds (5-10 pounds routinely).

twisting, pushing, grasping, reaching, bending, climbing, pulling, use of hangs, fingers, and legs.
