Role:

The Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) plays a vital role in supporting occupational therapists to help patients develop, recover, and improve the skills needed for daily living and working. This position involves implementing treatment plans designed by occupational therapists, monitoring patient progress, and adapting interventions to meet individual needs. The COTA works closely with patients of all ages who may be recovering from injuries, managing chronic conditions, or facing developmental challenges. By providing hands-on therapy and education, the COTA helps enhance patients' independence and quality of life. This role requires compassionate communication, meticulous documentation, and collaboration with a multidisciplinary healthcare team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Minimum Qualifications:

Associate degree from an accredited occupational therapy assistant program. Current certification as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT). Valid state licensure or registration as required by the state of employment. Basic life support (BLS) certification. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working in diverse healthcare settings such as hospitals, rehabilitation centers, or schools. Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems. Additional certifications related to specialized therapy techniques or populations. Bilingual abilities to effectively communicate with a diverse patient population. Continuing education in emerging occupational therapy practices and technologies.

Responsibilities:

Assist occupational therapists in delivering therapeutic interventions to patients based on individualized treatment plans. Monitor and document patient progress, reporting any changes or concerns to the supervising occupational therapist. Prepare and maintain therapy equipment and treatment areas to ensure a safe and effective environment. Educate patients and their families on therapeutic techniques and strategies to support recovery and independence. Collaborate with healthcare professionals to coordinate care and contribute to comprehensive treatment planning.

The Occupational Therapy Assistant utilizes clinical skills daily to implement therapeutic activities that promote patient independence and functional improvement. Strong communication skills are essential for educating patients and collaborating with the healthcare team to ensure cohesive care delivery. Organizational skills are applied in maintaining accurate patient records and managing therapy equipment efficiently. Problem-solving abilities enable the COTA to adapt interventions based on patient responses and progress. Additionally, empathy and patience are critical in building trust and motivating patients throughout their rehabilitation journey. Successful completion of a pre-employment background and reference check by an outside agency engaged by the company to conduct background checking, the results of which must meet our employment requirements. Depending on your assigned duties, work location, facility access, and applicable Florida requirements, you may also be required to complete an Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) Level 2 background screening is required you must maintain eligibility throughout your assignment.
