Summary:

Seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Ophthalmic Technician to support Retina specialist and clinical staff. Ideal candidate is skilled in patient history-taking, ocular testing, imaging (Heidelberg OCT, California Optos FA), intravitreal medication preparation, dilation, and communicates effectively with doctors and staff. Must be patient and compassionate with elderly patients.

Key Responsibilities:

Take accurate patient ocular and medical histories. Obtain and record visual acuity. Measure intraocular pressure (prefers applanation tonometry). Perform pupil checks, confrontational visual fields, APD testing, and extraocular muscle movement exams. Correctly dilate patients and explain dilation effects/aftercare. Operate Heidelberg OCT and perform fundus autofluorescence/fluorescein angiography on California Optos systems. Prepare, draw, label, and assist with intravitreal medications and steroid injections per clinic protocol (aseptic technique). Assist physicians by rooming patients, documenting findings, and anticipating needs during exams/procedures. Demonstrate solid knowledge of ophthalmic anatomy relevant to testing and imaging. Communicate clearly and professionally with patients, staff, and physicians. Provide patient-centered care, particularly for elderly patients—patient, kind, and reassuring. Travel between clinic locations as required.

Required Qualifications:

Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COA/COT) or equivalent preferred, NOT

REQUIRED.

Minimum 2 years clinical ophthalmic experience Proficient with visual acuity testing, applanation tonometry, pupil/APD testing, confrontational fields, and EOM testing. Hands-on experience with Heidelberg OCT and California Optos FA systems. Experience drawing and preparing intravitreal medications with strict aseptic technique and documentation.

Strong knowledge of ophthalmic drops:

drug names, classes, indications, and common side effects. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced clinic environment.
