Owned and managed in partnership with leading board-certified ophthalmologists, we provide specialized surgical care—including cataract extractions, refractive laser procedures, corneal transplants, glaucoma treatments, and vitreoretinal surgeries—in a state-of-the-art ambulatory environment. Job Summary The Ophthalmic Surgical Technologist provides direct, specialized technical scrub support during complex eye surgeries. Because our facility focuses strictly on ophthalmic procedures, candidates must possess direct, hands-on eye scrub experience in an operating room or ambulatory surgery center setting. The ideal candidate expertly manages delicate microsurgical instrumentation, anticipates the specific needs of ophthalmic surgeons, and maintains strict sterile fields to ensure optimal patient safety.

Compensation & Benefits Hourly Rate:

$42.00 to $55.00+ per hour

Key Responsibilities Ophthalmic Scrub Duties:

Function as the primary scrub technician for specialized eye surgeries (cataracts, retina, cornea, glaucoma), expertly handling micro-instruments, specialized knives, intraocular lenses (IOLs), and sutures.

Microsurgical Equipment Management:

Assemble, test, and troubleshoot specialized ophthalmic technology including phacoemulsification units, laser delivery platforms, and operating microscopes.

Sterile Field Integrity:

Strictly maintain aseptic technique and sterile environments tailored specifically to outpatient eye surgery standards.

Safety Protocols:

Conduct accurate sharps, sponge, and instrument counts collaboratively with the circulating nurse, and manage sterile field medications.

Instrument Processing & Turnover:

Safely decontaminate and handle delicate, high-precision microsurgical trays and assist the team with swift operating room turnover between cases.

Qualifications & Requirements Required Experience:

Minimum 1-2 years of dedicated, hands-on ophthalmic scrub tech experience in a hospital OR or an ambulatory surgery center (ASC).

Education:

High school diploma or GED required. Graduation from an accredited Surgical Technologist program or military equivalent preferred.

Certifications:

Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential preferred. Current BLS/CPR certification from the American Heart Association.

Required Skills:

Advanced understanding of ocular anatomy and eye surgery workflows. Exceptional fine motor skills, steady hand-eye coordination, and meticulous attention to detail.
