POSITION SUMMARY

Our Client is seeking experienced Certified Ophthalmic Technicians (COTs) - IJCAHPO-COT to support ophthalmology clinics and eye care providers during a temporary healthcare staffing assignment in Northern California. The Certified Ophthalmic Technician will assist with patient preparation, ophthalmic testing, clinical documentation, and procedural support while helping maintain continuity of patient care. Candidates should possess strong ophthalmic technical skills, excellent patient interaction abilities, and the flexibility to work in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Prepare patients for ophthalmic examinations and procedures. Obtain and document patient medical, ocular, and medication histories. Perform visual acuity testing and other ophthalmic diagnostic assessments. Conduct tonometry, visual field testing, keratometry, and other clinical measurements within scope. Assist ophthalmologists with examinations and minor office procedures. Perform ophthalmic imaging and photography as required. Document patient information, testing results, and clinical observations within the EMR system. Maintain examination rooms, equipment, supplies, and infection-control standards.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Active Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) - IJCAHPO-COT certification required. Recent professional experience as an Ophthalmic Technician. Experience performing ophthalmic diagnostic testing and patient workups. Knowledge of ocular anatomy, ophthalmic terminology, and common eye disorders. Strong patient care, communication, and documentation skills. Ability to work independently while following established clinical protocols. Experience using Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems. Ability to work effectively in a high-volume clinical environment. Ability to pass all credentialing and compliance requirements. Ability to work flexible schedules and shift assignments. Ability to deploy on short notice if activated.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Previous hospital experience. Previous travel assignment experience. Experience working in large healthcare systems. Previous strike-event, emergency response, or contingency staffing experience. Two or more years of recent ophthalmology experience. Experience with visual field testing, tonometry, keratometry, and ophthalmic imaging. Experience assisting with minor ophthalmic procedures. Retina, glaucoma, cataract, or specialty ophthalmology clinic experience.
