An Ophthalmic Technician makes prescription eyeglasses and contact lenses by cutting and shaping lenses according to individual prescriptions. May make lenses for other optical equipment, such as telescopes or microscopes. Works in medical equipment manufacturing facilities and laboratories, retail stores, or in the offices of optometrists and physicians.

Job Description

Work up patients for eye exam, including: autorefaction, Optos photography, corneal topography, measuring visual acuity, and other entrance tests. Perform visual field testing and OCT imaging. Work with patients to teach contact lenses insertion and removal. Assisting doctor with minor procedures, including IPL. Assist reception team in answering phones, scheduling, checking in patients, obtaining records, collecting payment, and clerical duties. Assist optician in glasses sales when needed.
