The Optometric Technician cooperates in the process of patient care by providing direct support to the Optometrist and by completing ophthalmic/optometric procedures that aid in the diagnosis and treatment of the patient.

QUALIFICATIONS

The Optometric Technician shall:

• Be a high school graduate or equivalent
• Write clearly and legibly
• Spell and abbreviate accurately using medical ophthalmic and/or optometric terminology.
• Have prior experience working for an ophthalmologist, optometrist or in an ophthalmology or optometry related area.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

The Optometric Technician reports directly to the Clinic Supervisor and interacts cooperatively with the optometrist, patient and other staff members. Assist's the optometrist in direct patient care.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

1. Records the patient's medical and ocular history. 2. Perform visual acuity testing. 3. Neutralizes lenses with lensometer. 4. Performs refractometry, manifest, retinoscopy (preferred). 5. Assists optometrist with patient examination if necessary. 6. Checks pupils (desired).
