Job Summary Ophthalmic Laboratory Technician- Job Responsibilities We are looking for a dependable, organized, and detail-oriented Optical Lab Assistant to join our optical team. This position will work closely with the Lab Manager to help ensure that eyeglass orders are processed accurately, efficiently, and on time for all five of our office locations.
Job Responsibilities:
Assist the Lab Manager with the daily operation and workflow of the optical laboratory. Assist with surfacing, edging, and processing lenses as trained. Order lenses from outside laboratories and vendors as needed. Review lens orders for accuracy, including prescription information, measurements, lens materials, treatments, and special instructions. Help ensure jobs move smoothly through each step of the laboratory process. Perform basic mathematical calculations involving prescriptions, measurements, lens powers, pricing, and other lab-related information. Maintain accurate records and paperwork associated with optical lab orders. Inspect finished lenses and eyewear for accuracy, quality, cleanliness, and proper completion before they are sent to the appropriate office. Package completed jobs properly for shipment. Create shipping labels and coordinate the shipment of completed jobs between our five office locations . Help coordinate the movement of jobs between the optical lab, outside laboratories, and our offices. Communicate clearly and professionally with the Lab Manager, opticians, office staff, vendors, and outside laboratories. Follow established lab procedures and quality-control standards. Keep track of multiple jobs and prioritize work based on deadlines and patient needs. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment. Clean and maintain lab equipment and work areas as directed. Monitor supplies and notify the Lab Manager when materials or supplies need to be reordered. Assist with inventory and organization of laboratory supplies. Help identify problems or delays with orders and communicate them promptly to the appropriate person. Assist with troubleshooting basic laboratory or order-related issues. Help maintain an efficient workflow so that jobs are completed accurately and within expected timeframes. Provide coverage for lab staff during vacations, days off, or other absences as needed. Be willing to learn new equipment, lens products, laboratory procedures, and technology. Perform other duties related to the optical laboratory as assigned. Skills & Qualifications Strong attention to detail and accuracy. Good math and problem-solving skills . Excellent organizational and time-management skills. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple jobs at the same time. Good communication skills and the ability to work well with others. Dependable, punctual, and willing to take responsibility for completing assigned work. Ability to work independently while also being a strong team player. Comfortable working with computers and learning new software and equipment. Strong commitment to cleanliness and organization. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions carefully. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy and quality. Previous optical or laboratory experience is helpful but not required . We are willing to train the right person. Schedule 32-40 hours per week , depending on laboratory workflow and business needs. We make every effort to keep the position as close to 40 hours per week as possible . Some flexibility may be required to provide coverage and keep laboratory operations running smoothly.
Pay:
$16.00 - $19.00 per hour Expected hours: 32.0 - 40.0 per week
