Job Summary We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Ophthalmic/OptometricTechnician to join our healthcare team. Private optometric office providing routine and medical eye exams. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in both optometry/ophthalmology and medical assisting, with a focus on providing exceptional patient care and supporting clinical operations. As an Ophthalmic Technician, you will perform essential diagnostic tests, assist with patient intake, and ensure the smooth functioning of ophthalmic procedures while maintaining the highest standards of safety, confidentiality, and professionalism. Duties Conduct comprehensive patient intake, including recording medical history and verifying insurance information in compliance with HIPAA regulations. Prepare patients for routine and medical eye examinations by explaining procedures and ensuring comfort throughout the process. Perform diagnostic tests including visual acuity assessments, intraocular pressure measurements, Optos imagin and optical coherence tomography (OCT) scans using specialized equipment. Maintain aseptic technique during procedures to prevent infection and ensure patient safety. Assist optometrists during examinations and minor procedures, providing necessary instruments and support. Manage electronic medical records (EMR) systems such as Officemate/Examwriter to document patient information accurately and efficiently. Support front desk operations by assisting with coding and be willing to cross train some operations such as answering phones and scheduling exams. Ensure compliance with all safety protocols, including HIPAA privacy standards and infection control guidelines. Maintain inventory of ophthalmic supplies and equipment, ensuring proper calibration and functionality for accurate testing. Skills Strong knowledge of ophthalmology/optometric practices, anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology related to eye health. Experience with optical equipment such as slit lamps, tonometers, OCT devices, and visual field analyzers. Proficiency in EMR systems like Officemate/Examwriter or similar platforms for documentation and record management. Excellent patient care skills with the ability to communicate clearly and empathetically with diverse populations. Familiarity with HIPAA regulations to ensure confidentiality of protected health information (PHI). Ability to perform clinical duties such as vital signs measurement, intake procedures, and maintaining aseptic technique effectively. Background in medical office operations including billing, coding, front desk responsibilities, and retail sales experience is advantageous. Knowledge of medical billing practices related to optometry/ophthalmology services is a plus. Retail math skills for managing inventory levels and sales transactions accurately.
