Responsibilities Assist ophthalmologists during patient examination by preparing and operating medical equipment. Perform intake procedures including collecting patient histories, verifying insurance information, and updating electronic health records (EHR) systems with detailed notes while adhering to HIPAA guidelines. Implement aseptic techniques during procedures to prevent infection and ensure a sterile environment for all clinical activities. Conduct diagnostic tests like visual acuity assessments, refraction, OCT, fundus photo and tonometry to aid in diagnosis and treatment planning. Assist front desk including triage/scheduling appointments and maintaining medical records with precision. Maintain clinical confidentiality policies rigorously while handling sensitive patient information across electronic medical records (EMR) systems. Operate medical equipment safely and effectively, ensuring all devices are calibrated and maintained according to manufacturer specifications. Skills Strong foundation in patient care with excellent communication skills to explain procedures clearly and compassionately. In-depth understanding of medical terminology related to ophthalmology, anatomy, physiology, and clinical procedures. Experience with optical devices such as OCT, tonometers, slit lamps, and visual field analyzers as well as fundus camera. Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and strict adherence to clinical confidentiality policies. Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) management platforms for accurate documentation. Ability to perform intake assessments efficiently while assisting front desk seamlessly within a busy clinic environment. Experience working in a healthcare setting that involves direct patient care—along with clinic experience preferred. Understanding of medical equipment operation combined with attention to detail ensures safe handling of all devices used during exams.
